The shortage of ob-gyn's willing to perform abortions has hit crisis levels

As we all know, no ob-gyns are required to perform abortions if they object to the procedure, but they are usually required to refer to an ob-gyn who is willing to perform it. I wouldn't change this at all, because I don't want to force doctors to perform abortions if they morally object to them. There used to be enough ob-gyn's to perform them. The percentage of ob-gyn's who are pro-choice hasn't changed from what I can tell, so what has? The fear of being killed. If anti-choicers weren't threatening to kill abortion providers, then a much higher percentage of pro-choice ob/gyn's would be willing to perform them.

A college friend of mine just finished his ob-gyn residency in June and I asked him what he was doing afterward. Was he going to do general ob-gyn work, do a fellowship in maternal-fetal health or perhaps oncology? He's always been passionate about a woman's right to choose, as I am. He said that what he really wanted to do was provide reproductive healthcare (including abortions) to women, but now that he is married with a small child, he's not willing to risk orphaning his child. He's going into maternal-fetal medicine INSTEAD of family planning because he fears for his life. He fears that he will be gunned down by some right-wing nut. The climate of fear that the right-wing has sown among ob-gyn's and medical students who would be prospective abortion providers is quite terrifying to behold.

So he's not doing what he always believed was his calling, namely to provide important care to women in their hour of need. I think the Dr. Tiller shooting really shook him up. The area where we grew up is not an area in which abortion providers exist. We grew up in rural Iowa, so this is not NYC or another large city where women can access abortion services without fear. Protests outside abortion clinics are common here, because the anti-choice movement backed by evangelicals is very strong.

I'm not sure what the solution to these right-wingers scaring doctors out of providing services to women, but something has to change. When right-wingers post the names and addresses and personal information of ob-gyns that perform abortions on websites, basically creating target lists, that should be disallowed. The right to safety must trump other considerations in these circumstances. It isn't my buddy's fault. I can't expect him to risk his life to provide necessary services to women.

It's really very sad.

What's really sad is how much you goons love abortion.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Maybe its because people who deliver babies and see to their healthy introduction to the world might have a different view about killing those same babies.

.

There is not a doctor anywhere who would refuse to perform a medically necessary abortion.  You idiot.

Your college friend made the right choice.  It would have been a shame to have had to kill him.

There, that's what you wanted to believe anyway, so I'm more than willing to lead you down the primrose path.

My thoughts, exactly. Some calling.

Or maybe, now that he has a child, he realizes that the "clump of cells" his wife was carrying was, in fact, a baby all along.

Quite possible.  The ones that really freak me out are the parents that have children and then go on to have an abortion because it's just not the right time.  I know a woman that did that then went on to get pregnant 2 months later and kept that one.  Totally made me sick to my stomach.  When I congragulated her on her birth, I felt so sad for that little baby that was murdered.  Why was that baby not valued?  Why was this one?

I get tearyeyed just thinking about those little souls that will never exist because of the inconvience factor.

And what do the siblings think? That's ghoulish.

Of course they never told their kids.  You would think they would since it's so OKAY to abort kids though.

This DUmmie's whole line of thinking is just Bullshit.

One guy whose specialty and pride is to perform late-term abortions which virtually no one else would perform is murdered by a disturbed fanatic, and this is enough to intimidate a whole profession into refusing to do abortions? BULLSHIT!!!

What is almost certainly happening is that with the advent of newer and better ways to see the actual living fetus as it develops in real time, more and more practioners are finding it impossible to deny the humanity of that "inconvenient little clump of cells".

(Saying this as I look at the ultrasounds of my 20 week first grandson, and shudder at the thought of people who would rip him from my daughter-in-law's womb without a second thought.  Monsters.)

We all know that to the DUmmies murdering an unborn baby is a great and wonderful thing.

We also know that to the DUmmies stopping a Islamic terrorist with deadly force before he murders innocents is a terrible and evil thing.

What would the DUmp's opinion be if there was someway to determine that the unborn baby was an Islamic terrorist?

What floors me about these fools that constantly like to berate the right for being so scientifically in the dark on things is why they choose to remain like the primitive man when it comes to the development of a human being in utero? The people that helped pass Roe vs. Wade(including the SC at the time) were not privy to the eyeball that current technology allows to see the development in real time. They, at the very least, have an excuse. These ghouls and their cohorts today have no excuse. THEY are the ones who have not kept up with medical technology and advancements for no other reason then in their minds 'choice' trumps medical reality. THEY are the ones behind the times--deliberately.

The DUmmies would claim that the baby was framed.

Maybe there isn't a shortage of ob-gyn's willing to perform abortions....just more careless whores that don't take precautions.

I know a possible answer that I do not wish to conjecture about.  It wouldn't reflect well on her and I would be guessing anyway.

Sad.

No, she didn't cheat on him.  He knew full well about the baby.  It was such a "heart wrenching" decision for them.  It was really hard to stomach when she came back later and said "Surprise!  I'm pregnant! I am so excited!"

How often does this happen?
