Todays baseball players just Dumb & Lazy
« on: September 02, 2015, 08:49:13 AM »
I used to watch a whole lot of baseball and go to games regularly, I stopped after the last strike. The game before the last strike when I thru my food and drink at Lenny Dykstra (Union rep who is now in Jail) while in the outfield seats in Veterans stadium and other then a few minor league games haven't been back to a game.
Anyway I this year started to watch some games and have concluded players, mostly pitchers are dumber then rocks. I watched a Mets game yesterday and watched pitchers after after pitchers give up hits on 0-2 or 1-2 counts. When I was a kid in the 60-70's you never seen Gibson, Seaver, Carlton even mediocre pitchers give up a 2 or 3 run homer on an 0-2 count. They would throw at your head, bounce a pitch or throw it where you couldn't hit it. This happens day after day game after game, aren't there any pitching coaches willing to stand up to these MILLIONAIRES?
Hitters are no better, I one night listened to a commentator mention a team only having 4 or 5 bunts all year. Really! The shift is used day after day something you didn't see years ago, why? Because 20 years ago the hitter would lay down a bunt if the third baseman was playing where the shortstop would. It was common to see a player especially a fast runner bunt a few times a week if the third baseman was playing back. this is now a thing of the past. If players would bunt a few times the shift would go away.
Most players on a ground ball rarely ever run out a hit but just jog right from the box. Wow ya think the MILLIONS would have some hustling a little at least!
The talent has been watered down big time.

I'd rather watch youngsters up through maybe college age.....but the little ones are a lot more fun. :-)...and T-ball players are a hoot.  :lmao:
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

I get real aggravated when batters have the opportunity to steal first and do nothing more than turn and walk to the dugout.
I have seen more than 1 situation where the catcher bobbled or dropped the 3rd strike.
Some of those situations would result in a successful steal of 1st, or at least a close enough play to add excitement and drama.

There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

My point exactly, they are just lazy. I can't count how many times in the last few weeks I watched guys being thrown out at first that were just jogging. Once someone gets on base anything can happen. I just don't get it!!!!!!! The shift drives me crazy, watching players hit the ball to the second baseman who is in short right field yet the third baseman is 25' from second. He don't even need a good bunt just anywhere on the left side of the field.

Combining punts from football with bunts from baseball, in a baseball game might be interesting.
But I know what you mean.

It's like rolling a tennis ball through a yard of puppy dogs, isn't it?
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

John C Calhoun, "Disquisition on Government", 1840

During the Cardinals game last night a player hit a pop up to short right field that the second baseman fielded and the player turned to the dugout after 2-3 steps instead of running of first. OK so my short lived reintroduction to baseball is over.
They later said he felt a twinge in his forearm or something like that, so what does this have to do with running to first base? :banghead:

I also coached baseball until I was told every player had to be in the batting order weather there were 9 that showed up or 15 and they had to rotate in the field with ten fielders. These were up to 17 year old kids not little guys.
