It's things like this that make sleeping on guard duty a CAPITAL OFFENSE. You endanger the whole unit when you leave your sector unwatched.

But he didn't just fall asleep.  He packed up his belongings, shipped them back to his Jihad-sympathizing father in Idaho, walked off post, and asked the first local he encountered where he could find himself some Taliban.

He disappeared after his watch was over.  His belongings were packed (minus a compass and water) and shipped back to his Jihad-loving daddy in Idaho.  Radio chatter was intercepted after he left that an American was on foot and looking for the local Taliban leaders in the area.

From what I've heard, he left after being relieved.  It doesn't changed what was done after.

The Taliban found Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl walking alone, acting abnormally and cursing his countrymen before they captured him in Afghanistan in 2009, two men who were Taliban commanders at the time told NBC News on Thursday.

They said that Afghan locals first informed fighters about the soldier, and then the fighters rushed to capture him.

“Our people at the time couldn’t understand his language, but it was after he was shifted to a safe location, he said he wasn’t happy with his countrymen, but he didn’t intend to convert to Islam or join mujahideen (holy warriors),” one of the commanders said.

It is obvious that Bowe Bergdahl hates America.
