This is totally lawyer humor, but I say he should take it to Federal court on diversity jurisdiction to vindicate his rights!

Can anyone tell me when that photo was snapped?  wasn't there a story behind that photo?  what occasion was it from?

If he hadnt been so greedy, he wouldn't have rented out his house and could have reasonably claimed Chicago as his main residence.

As it is, he may not be on the ballot, but $10M (in campaign donations) is a nice consolation prize and he can run for congress next year.

However the Illinois Supreme Court will probably overturn this decision and Emanuel (dead fish) the tiny ballerina will be allowed to steal the election as predicted ... or he could just return to DC as The Chief Regime Advisor.

Bingo on the first comment, Janice.  He should have at the very least rented a townhouse or something.  Lord knows he's got the cash.

The ballots are being printed as we speak, and Rahmbo's name is not on it.  A lot of things could still happen, especially at the Illinois Supreme Court level.  However, there may be a turd in the punchbowl waiting for Rahm there too.  The wife of an arch-enemy of Daley/Rahm is on the IL Supreme Court...who knows how she might rule.

If he doesn't get back on the ballot, I'd put my money on Gerry Chico to win over Braun.  She has WAY too much baggage, Chico is well respected.

But it is Chicago so who knows what might happen.

Yeah, it's a crapshoot...IL state government is not Chicago, nor is it entirely straight up either.  No bet on how this one comes out.  I heard he was trying to analogize his appointment to military service, which is really a bridge too far in terms of legal argument, there are specific State and Federal statutes that underlie military residence issues which clearly would not include him.

Yeah, this is a complicated issue.  Policemen, firemen, teachers in the city of Chicago are required to live in the city, not the burbs.  Not sure about all city workers, but clarifying this stuff may open up a whole other can of worms.

Rahm's lawyers were trying to use the military service angle (service to your country), and apparently failed at the current level the case is at.

Supreme Court: Emanuel stays on ballot while his case is considered

The Illinois Supreme Court has ordered the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners to put Rahm Emanuel’s name back on the mayoral ballot.

The court has not decided whether to hear Emanuel’s appeal of Monday’s Illinois Appellate Court ruling that tossed him out of the race to replace Mayor Daley. But the Supreme Court granted Emanuel’s motion for a stay of the ruling.

“The appellate court decision is stayed,’’ the Supreme Court’s order reads. “The Board of Elections is directed that if any ballots are printed while this Court is considering this case, the ballots should include the name of petitioner Rahm Emanuel as a candidate for Mayor of the City of Chicago.’’

Makes sense, though, since if the intermediate court's decision stands his name gets struck and it can't be undone if the decision is reversed later, but if they either refuse the appeal or find against him at the IL Supreme Court, votes for him can always be thrown out later.
