U.S. Courts Freeze Venezuela Assets or, HA HA HA!
« on: February 08, 2008, 10:09:07 AM »
Courts in the U.S. and Britain have granted requests by ExxonMobil to freeze more than $12 billion in assets of Venezuela’s state oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

ExxonMobil is seeking compensation for the nationalization of two oil projects in the South American country by the government of President Hugo Chavez.

snippy....

Venezuelan production has declined 25 percent since Chavez took office in 1999, largely because he fired more than 20,000 experienced engineers and executives for joining a 2002-3 walkout seeking Chavez’s removal from office, according to BusinessWeek.

I have a feeling this is just the beginning. See what happens when socialism begins to take over? The asshat Chavez FIRES 20,000 experienced engineers and expects operations to continue as normal.

Oh well, off to the DUmp to watch the venom over Teh Rove's involvement in this.

Oh yea, BTW:

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Interesting, perhaps a very good thing too.  In all honesty though, I thought in the ExxonMobil case, Chavez didn't nationalize their projects... but brokered new terms.  No idea though, and surely the renegotiations were essentially forced, so perhaps its a mute point.

:o I had no idea about his firing that large of a highly skilled work force :o

Exxon did try to negotiate but the Commie wanted too big a cut so they along with Conoco told Chavez to shove it. However, two American oil companies still remain.
