Obama Would Keep Guns From Millions on Social Security

It's coming...another assault on gun rights.  Age discrimination anyone?

Obama looks to ban Social Security recipients from owning guns

The Obama administration wants to keep people collecting Social Security benefits from owning guns if it is determined they are unable to manage their own affairs, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The push, which could potentially affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, according to the paper....

The latest move is part of the efforts by President Obama to strengthen gun control following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012.

Critics are blasting the plan, saying that expanding the list of people who cannot own guns based on financial competence is wrongheaded.

The ban, they argue, would keep guns out of the hands of some dangerous people, but would also include people who simply have a bad memory or have a hard time balancing a checkbook....

The NRA is on this of course, but PLEASE, PLEASE write, call, or e-mail your representative.  This is in my opinion the #1 issue we are faced with -- gun rights!  Without them, we will have no rights.

It is not consistent with the way the competence standard is otherwise applied, which is to only bar those who have been diagnosed and legally adjudicated as mentally incompetent.  I do not believe that is required for SSA to send the checks to a third party, as I recall consent from the beneficiary alone is sufficient to initiate that process.

Cheap rascals won't mail you a check any more, no sir, got to get it electronically so they can know where you bank, confiscate your money or cut you off faster maybe.

Most seniors have made some type of planning ahead of time in the event that they are incapacitated, so to assume that seniors who have their "affairs" in order are ALL incapacitated is pure b.s.  At that point in time usually they are put into some sort of nursing facility.  Last time I checked granny and gramps can't be armed in a nursing facility. This is nothing more than Barry testing the waters to see what he can get away with.  He gets any kind of latitude with the Second Amendment and I fear an e.o. is just around the corner and then the average Joe will see his rights under the 2nd Amendment gone.  With his anti-gun partners in the UN this is the last thing we want to allow him to get away with.  How will we defend ourselves against Barry's regime??  Most of us have older relatives and I think most can still pull that trigger if need be.  The "65" and over population is huge .... I would bet that since they are being targeted they probably also possess the most weapons.

We have the right to bear arms period.  Barry is amending the 2nd Amendment as he sees fit!

Secondly, this isn't just limited to the Social Security Administration but other federal agencies as well.
