Eighth-Grade Boy Fights For Right To Wear Makeup
« on: September 25, 2008, 02:34:46 PM »
Stupid people never learn.  It wasn't that long ago that some parents were suing a school because their young son was murdered at his school for something similar.
Quote
A Hamilton teenager is fighting for his right to wear makeup at school, but school leaders say it's a distraction.

"They're gender stereo-typing. He's being sexually discriminated against. Nowhere in the rules does it say that males can't wear make-up" says Mindy Ball.

The Hamilton mother says she stands 100% behind her son, 13-year-old Matt Allsup, an eighth grader at Garfield Middle School who wears black eye makeup, lipstick and fingernail polish.

The only way my son would have left the house with makeup on, is if he was going to a costume party.

I honestly don't care what a kid does to his/her hair, face, or fingernails as long as they don't do anything permanent.  Like the stupid losers that pierce every part of their face or tattoo their faces and necks.  As long as the school doesn't have a policy about it there shouldn't be a problem.  However this school DOES have a policy about it and that kid needs to STFU and get an education.  He can look like the biggest tool in the world when he goes to college.

Even as recently as the 80's - mid 90's when I was at school, should a male student turn up wearing makeup and nail polish, he'd have had the crap kicked out of him.

I'd have helped.

I hate Emos. I know Goths and Punks hate Emos. In Mexico, Emos are looked down upon. Something good from the South of the Border.  :lmao:

A) What the hell is wrong with these kids?

B) What the hell is wrong with their parents?

Sigh.

Every generation has had an "emo" crowd. They think they are so original and the first ones to feel "pain and isolation" and "no one understands me!!!". Give. Me. A. Break. Get a haircut and get a job. You'll feel better.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I have to go with the schools on this one. I am all for an adult's right to do what they want to. When a kid is in your care (whether you're parent, school administrators, teachers, etc), it's your (generic your) job to keep them safe. In schools, it's their job to keep the schools from becoming too distracted for education. And if the kid does end up attacked for wearing make-up, the parents can sue (even if they were for the wearing make-up).

The 8th grader should get a job?

(just a joke).

Yeah.  He should get a job.

Glenn Beck brought this up the other day; do you know how badly I (or Glenn, as well apparently) would have gotten our ass kicked by our parents if we weren't out in the neighborhood with the lawn mower offering to mow lawns (and nowadays, underbidding the illegals on all the landscaping crews)?  Not only would my dad (and Glenn's) have kicked our asses out from in front of the television to get out and do our own yard work, but that little old house-bound lady's yard as well, and then sent me out to see what I could make off the other neighbors in the neighborhood.

Kick the kid's Emo ass out there and put him to work.

No kidding!  I have to practically BEG a kid around here to rake my lawn.  My kids are just now old enough to be able to handle a rake.  I can't rake leaves because of my allergies.  I would probably start crying if some kid came to my door wanting to rake, shovel snow, or pull weeds.

8th grade is what? 14? 15? Plenty old enough to get a job. There is always yardwork, errand running, babysitting, etc..

At 15, I was working part time doing filing in an office for a company owned by my dad's best friend.

And actually, my comment was directed to emo's in general.  :p

I guess you all are right. I keep thinking in terms of having to be sixteen. There's always small jobs that can be done like yard work though. My bad.
