repukes are really going after FDR

this is clearly a pukester talking point and it's clearly all about revisionist history. you all know the talking point by now: FDR turned a recession into a depression because of his policies and spending. And the real point they're trying to make is that Obama's stimulus package will create a depression just like Roosevelt's blah, blah, blah and that history is on their side. Like hell, it's on their side, lying ****wads. Dems need to counter this revisionist history head on and call out the liars.

Revisionist?  When FDR entered office the unemployment rate was 25%.  After 8 years, it was only down to 20%.  And that's just a small part of the facts.

Quote from:
Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After scrutinizing Roosevelt's record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.

"Why the Great Depression lasted so long has always been a great mystery, and because we never really knew the reason, we have always worried whether we would have another 10- to 15-year economic slump," said Ohanian, vice chair of UCLA's Department of Economics. "We found that a relapse isn't likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill-conceived stimulus policies."

Hoover doesn't get a pass either.  Smoot-Hawley and the strengthening of the unions were his kids.

The funny thing is my family, except for my now departed Grandpa, who was Finnish at the time, were all southerners.  I was interested about the depression when I was fourteen or fifteen when I took honor level economics.  They all commented that they hardly noticed the depression, the south had been like that since they could remember.

Looking at some items from the post civil war time period through the 1940s makes it clear why.  It is one of the few things James Webb was actually right about.  The north had essentially colonized the south and held back any economic progress.
