Sparkey what is with your problem with the State of Maine?
Oh many and varied are the ways in which I could point out the ****-up-ed-ness of that which is Maine. It's like MA (and once actually was) but stupider.
A beautiful state with a tremendous sea coast, and inland many, many miles of forest and farm lands. Dover-Fox Croft has one of the best VA, hospitals in the US.======Land is still cheap up there and the towns are small but still working to make sure the year round residents have jobs.
Land is still cheap because nobody ****ing lives there. Land is also cheap in other places where people DO want to live. And as far as tremendous sea coasts, sure, they're pretty, but so is Hawaii, California, Florida, Alaska, and a million other places. Mainers (Maineiacs) had nothing to do with their creation.
You would be surprised at the big money up North, Big lakes with small aircraft to send the owners off to their work places out of state. With all this it means that there has to be aircraft mechanics and those mechanics that tend to the huge tractors needed to work the potato fields. People to work on the cars that get a beating down those dirt roads.
That "big money" is usually "from away" as you put it. Show me a "rich" native Mainer. I say you won't find any, because anyone with $100 and a running car has already left. Why is it, for the first time in 210 years, the population of NH now exceeds Maine? I think we both know why.
A quiet State if one moves away from the sea coast and that does not have to be far, 20 miles away will do you.
Abbot Maine had 20 acres up for sell with 100 foot frontage on a lake back 10 years ago and I looked into it , should have cashed in my 401K as it went for $30.000 bucks. Darn like my parents that in the late 40's did not buy into Miami Beach.---we only regret the things we did not do.
If by quiet you mean DEAD, with only the howls of the oxy-ridden addicts, then yeah, I guess you're right. And 20 acres with 100 FEET of frontage? Wow, what a ****ing bargain!
Went to a wedding on Mount Catalacks at sun rise ---cold as hell in July. Awe as the sun rose exposing the islands in the distance. Helped that the Indian drummers were playing in the distance.--------Some sort of tribal thing for that day I guess.
Head for the shore and a dive for the fisherman, listen to them gripe and complain, there is nothing wrong with Maine except the Federal government coming in and driving 4 generations of fishermen out of work.
Cold in July--yeah, that's what I want. And I've lived far closer to Native locales than you can ever hope to, dearest (think Four Corners region of New Mexico--I graduated HS there, remember?) And the only OTHER thing besides the federal government driving the fishermen out of work is the state which ass-rapes their people with taxes and fees that rival Califunny. First thing I told Scoobie when she was doing the job hunt was to not even consider a job in Maine. Gee, wonder why?
(We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.)
