Watching The Petraeus Senate Hearings,...

A Few thoughts;

First, what a dynamic speaker McSame is! His opening remarks prove he could be much more effective than 'Ambien' or 'Lunesta'. He will be dangerous in debates during the GE!

Secondly, MoveOn.org was right about Petraeus. He is nothing more than a shill for Bu$hCo. The M$M promoting him as a "hero" and a "neutral arbiter" is a ****ing joke. His only purpose at this point is to aid the Bu$h administration in running out the clock in Iraq. His replacement should be made swiftly after the inauguration.

linky

the hate is going to be knee deep in this one.

Every time I see him speak I think about it and it makes me shudder. :scared:

10. If the war is such a ****ing great idea, then BRING BACK THE ****ING DRAFT

Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 11:10 AM by SoonerPride
We keep our volunteer service personelle in a constant of rotation whereby the only relief they get from going back AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN is to either be killed or seriously wounded. Hoo-****ing-ray!

The psychological scars alone make most of those 140,000 still in Iraq damaged goods. Not to mention the destroyed families and economic consequences of this. This quagmire will topple our economy and plunge us headlong into another GREATER DEPRESSION. Hope you speak Mandarin, as this country is now for sale to the Chinese.

If the ****ing occupation of Iraq is a policy we want to pursue for 100 years, then bring back the ****ing draft. We'll see how popular it remains then.

This talk of "winning" is a *******ed joke. There is nothing TO win.

Get out and get out NOW. I don't care if the whole ****ing middle east devolves into a holy war between the Shi'a and Sunni. It ain't our problem to fix. Sorry.

can you say that word that many times in oklahoma? :rotf: :-)

And it's supposedly saving us money because they're not blowing up our vehicles now. Unbelievable!

where did $16M/month come from, and how do I get in on the action? :-)

. . . and it's hardly beside the point that the vehicles were never the issue;  the people in the vehicles were always the concern.  this is not a small distinction that really should have occurred to this asshat.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. Highlights (and lowlights) via malkin who liveblogged
Quote
9:46am. McCain speaks. “We owe a great debt of gratitude” to Army Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker. “Success…is within reach.”

9:50am. Code Pinkos interrupt. Just like last time.

9:55am: McCain: “Congress must not choose to lose.” USAToday has audio of McCain’s statement.

Sen. Levin mistakenly calls Gen. Petraeus “Admiral.”

9:57am: Petraeus: Progress has been “fragile” and “reversible,” but “better than it was.” Sunni communities have increasingly rejected Sunni Al Qaeda. Awakenings have prompted tens of thousands of Iraqis to contribute to security. The recent flare-up in Basra highlighted Sadr ceasefire and the role Iran has played. Unchecked, they pose the greatest long-term threat to Iraq. Iraq’s ethno-sectarian competitions are influenced by many outside actors–a cancer that will spread if left unchecked.

10:12am: Petraeus: Withdrawing too many forces too quickly could jeopardizes gains made over the last year. A failed state in Iraq would pose serious consequences for the fight against al Qaeda.

Recommends a 45-day period of consolidation and evaulation in July (the “pause“). Make reductions as conditions permit. Does not allow for a timetable, but does allow for flexibility.

In closing: Addressing those serving in Iraq. “We have asked a great deal of them and their families. And they have made enormous sacrifices…All Americans should take pride in our men and women serving in Iraq…It remains the greatest honor to soldier with them.”

RedLasso has video of the first part of Gen. Petraeus’s testimony here.

10:26am: Ambassador Crocker testifying on political and economic gains and challenges. Political challenges: Refugees, rights of women and minorities, internal boundaries. “Iraq’s political progress will not be linear…changing dynamics within Shia community…in terms of economics and capacity building…revival of marketplaces and reopening of long-shuttered businesses…I remain convinced that a departure from our current course would mean failure…Iran has said publicly that it would fill any vacuum in Iraq…how we leave and what we leave will be more important than that we came…”

Questions from Senate panel.

10:42am. Sen. Levin calls Petraeus’s call for pause a “clear, open-ended pause.” Do you agree with Secy Gates that it would be “brief” or not? Levin is rude and sanctimonious. “He used the word brief. You are not. That is deliberate.”

Petraeus: I am not using the word “brief” or the word “pause.”

Levin: How long? Petraeus trying to answer. Could it be three months?

At the end of the period of evaluation and consolidation, it could be right then.

HECKLERS: BRING THEM HOME! BRING THEM HOME!

Levin barely lifts a finger to remove the heckler.

10:47am Eastern. Was the Iraqi govt operation in Basra adequately planned?

Petraeus: No question it could have been better planned. Levin is heckling Petraeus. Could you give me a direct answer?

Petraeus repeats: It could have been.

So this is the Democrat strategy for today: Heckle the general about Basra, allow outside hecklers to pile on.

10:58am Eastern. Sen. Kennedy takes two minutes to ask a question about bilateral agreements between the US and the Iraq and then tells Ambassador Crocker to hurry up and answer before he has a chance to open his mouth.

11:02am Eastern. Now, Sen. Windbag asks questions of Gen. Petraeus about Basra and cuts him off as he tries to answer.

There was a Committee hearing on Iraq last week, and the Code Stinkos showed up.  My god, but those people were unattractive.  I could probably deal with one or the other, but unattractive and crazy just don't mix.  I think it was the Appropriations Committee.

If General Jukin had been called an Admiral instead of a General by the head of the Armed Services Committee I would say "Senator Levine I would hope that the head of the committee that oversees the military of the USA would know the difference between the Army and the Navy. It frightens and concerns me that you do not and still remain the committee head."

Why not piss him off and show what a complete ass Levine is as he would still have the same tone of questioning?  He might even show a little humility, HAHAHAHA.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
