I remember my buddy blowing his trans and/or engine in his '58 Impala convert. We'd push it back to his place, then into the barn, drop a chain-fall from the loft, take out the old & put in a new, and have everything re-hooked up a few hours. Then back out on the streets!

I also had the trans problem with my '54 Merc with 3 on the tree. The clutch link was the weakest ever made, and I blew 4 trannys in about 1.5 years.

Probably had the 348 engine.....bad.....just like the bad '58 FORD 352 engine.....just a bad year all round.

Nope. He and I both had 283s. Only difference was color and mine had power steering. We'd be dead even when we raced.

The 283's were a solid engine......and you could buy all types of hot rod stuff for them across the counter.

For years the 283's were engine of choice for the "Late Model Sportsman" division of southern dirt track racing.

I loved the sound of a 283 winding tight at a drag strip.

The Commander I had was pretty rough, but Stude's have pretty cool options. There was a cigarette ejector that would use vacuum to eject butts out of the car through a tube.

Fun little cars. Motor was a little mechanically weak, and that carb was a pain.
Did two engine rebuilds on mine.
Pulling the xmission was a piece of cake.

Yea they were under powered until you started tweaking them  ::) I changed the carb to a webber progressive downdraft, header, timing and advance curb, and bigger tires. The lil 1.9 would run pretty good at that point. I daily drove the 72 to college and delivering pizzas every night for 2 years. The only problem I ever had with the 72 was a lifter went bad and had NAPA order it from Germany. took 2 weeks back in 1992 ish.

I'm kind of pooped out right now. Do you remember a small Ford, that had almost a direct motor conversion?
I can't think of it right now.
Still a fun little car to drive on a budget.

I kind of want to say Pinto, with the 2.0L.

Well GM owned Opel till recently (they may still have some share not sure) they bought it from Adams Opel back in the 60's if I remember that is why we even had it here. I do not know of any ford that it was interchangeable but I may be wrong. The Saturn that GM bought used a lot of Opel engines Tots 2000 SC2 1.9 engine was very similar block design as my GT. I have a 1.9 that was bored .100 to fit 265 Chevy pistons (there are more than a few parts that interchange with GM cars) and they are on the rods waiting for me to get off my ass and do something...hehe That will make it an out of square 2.0....should work out fine.

I forgot my motorcycles:

1981 Suzuki 650E (rotted in my Dad's garage)
2003 Honda 919 (still riding this one)
1983 Honda 500 Turbo
1985 VFR 500 Intercepter

1987 Ski Centurion
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.
