What is the purpose of doing this anyway?
-
I don't, but then, I don't eat seafood, either! :-)

That's really sad. I would have been the same way because my parents didn't have a clue how to cook seafood. Furtunately, I grew up in New Orleans so when I finally got to try seafood away from home it was the best!

I don't know the purpose but I've always done it.

I've eaten it cooked at home, and at various restaraunts, and I just don't like it. I can eat some types of fish, but shrimp, lobster, etc...ugh, the texture makes me gag.

I do it. The purpose is to allow the citrus to brighten the flavor of the fish.
I like lemon on fried fish. I do see a lot of folks doing that.
mmmmmm. Fried catfish, lemon, and tartar sauce.
-
I don't do it religiously, but any tart substance like lemon or vinegar also helps eliminate any "fishy" taste for me.
If it's super-fresh, I don't worry about it. But on occasion I like to get my fish grilled with lime pepper.

Ya'll are a bunch of damn communist seafood haters to do that to seafood

We're probably talking a bit out of your league. We are talking about seafood that doesn't come out of a can with a mermaid on the label.

You haven't lived until you've had a proper dolphin-salad sandwich.. :-)

Squeezed lemon on fish fried or baked gives it a zesty taste. If I don't have lemon, no big deal. I might use ketchup on fried catfish. Don't use lemon on any other type of seafood.
-
I use the lemon, it enhances the flavor.

FREAK! :)

Latent hillbilly. Reject things that remind of full ditch meat.

Well, yeah, but what does that have to do with not liking seafood??? :-)
