Does anyone here read German?

German website claiming that Iran has has a nuke?
Quote
The Islamic Republic
On February 1, President Ahmadinejad announced that Iran will “deliver a telling blow” to the “arrogant global powers” on the 11th.
Two days later he announced that Iran had successfully launched a satellite-capable rocket into space, prompting concerns that such rockets could carry a nuclear payload.   The rocket carried a rat, two turtles, and some worms.

The regime is once again making ambiguous noises about its willingness, or unwillingness, to ship nuclear fuel outside of Iran for processing, hoping to avoid or defer harsher sanctions. In the meantime, Iran’s major European trading partner, Germany, is beginning to pull corporate operations and personnel out of the country, and price controls on basic commodities are about to rise dramatically.
And a major German newspaper, the Süddeutschen Zeitung, reported on Thursday that Iran has developed an atomic bomb with the help of a scientist from the former Soviet Union.

Iran has developed according to information from the Süddeutsche Zeitung with the help of a scientist from a former Soviet nuclear weapons laboratory, the design for an advanced nuclear warhead.

Western intelligence agencies and diplomats confirmed with information from a paper that the knowledge of the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, summarizing, the Süddeutsche Zeitung has read the paper. According to the inspectors would work the warhead.

It is therefore a so-called two-point Implosionssystem. Unlike older models that needed only two special warhead fuze, called Exploding Bridgewires (EBWs).

This helped reduce the diameter of the extent that it would be small enough to be shot down with the Iranian medium-range missile Shahab-3. Iran has admitted to the IAEA, of having made experiments for the synchronous firing of several EBWs.

The Google translation is actually very close, aside from German sentence structure being what it is and mis-matching some of hte objects and modifiers.  Correcting it for sense should be more like:

"The archive photograph shows the Shahab-3 missile test in November 2006. Photo: AP

According to information from the Süddeutsche Zeitung (South German News[paper]), Iran has developed a design for an advanced nuclear warhead with the help of a scientist from a former Soviet nuclear weapons laboratory.

Western intelligence agencies and diplomats confirmed this information from a paper which was in the possession of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors in Vienna to that effect, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung has seen the paper.  According to the inspectors, the warhead would work.

It utilizes a so-called Two-Point Implosion System. Unlike older models, it needs only two special warhead detonators, called Exploding Bridgewires (EBWs).

By this means, a reduction of the diameter is facilitated, to the extent that it would be small enough to be loaded into and fired in an IRBM such as the Shahab-3. Iran has admitted to the IAEA that it has made experiments for the synchronous firing of several EBWs."

ETA - Note that it is talking about Iran having a apparently-viable design in hand, not an actual or prototype weapon.  There are a lot of pitfalls between the two, the development discussed here would make a functional weapon more easily delivered, but the 'Hard part' of nuclear weapons design actually lies in another direction, not just the explosives engineering for symmetrical detonation of the implosion charge.

A much cleaner translation than had been provided.  :cheersmate:

A brief update:

Quote
SZ

In reaction to the progress made by the islamic republic, the German chancellor Angela Merkel concluded that preparations to economic sanctions would continue. The latest pronouncement out of Teheran shows that Iran does not intend to adopt the IAEA offer, said [German] government spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm on Monday.

"We will now carefully observe the actions of the Iranian leadership in the next few days, and then independently plot out a course to increase pressure."

Looks like a note from Angela is on the way.  :whatever: Imanutjob can add that to the pile of paper from the U.N.

I still haven't seen any of this on US news sites. I haven't looked very hard for it , either, though.

Foreign affairs is hardly a big deal for the MSM, the media follows Obama's lead.
