What's your favorite appliance/device?
« on: May 13, 2013, 01:56:54 PM »
I can cook on anything.  Stove, grill, hotplate, open pit.    Heck, I have cooked hotdogs over my propane lantern.
But, I also love certain cooking tools, like my vertical rotisserie.
I have an autistic 24 year old at home.  My wife works evenings much of the time.  SO, it is left to me to find things Audrey will eat.
I can arrive home at 6:15 pm, and in 5-6 minutes, have a chicken dinner prepped, and cooking.
I take a glass bowl, and put in a few tbsp of canola oil,  some rosemary, garlic, salt and pepper.  I roll a whole chicken in the oil until well coated.  I place it in the rotisserie and set it for 400 degrees, and let her go.
There is a bowl that fits the top of the rotisserie, for sides.  I cut up potatoes and coat them with the same oil, put them in the top and cover it.   1 hour 15 minutes later, I have the juiciest, most delicious yard bird and crispy taters, you can imagine.  A salad, and some rolls, and it's stellar.

So, which appliance(s) or devices do you like?

My cast iron dutch oven gets used almost every day.  It's my favorite thing in the kitchen.

Yup. Got one too.

And my cast iron skillet gets the flame quite often as well.

Man after my own Heart.
I recently(Thanksgiving 2012) bought a Char Broil  Infrared Turkey Fryer.  I would say this is probably my favorite.
I take some Tony Chachere's Cajun Marinade and inject the bird.
Coat the skin with peanut oil.
Cook about 2 hrs for a 15 lb bird.
Comes out juicier than any Bird I ever ate, with awesome flavor and crispy skin, just like a fried turkey, with much less fat and expense.

I hadn't seen one of those before. I may need to add it to my arsenal!

It looks like it would also be good for a lamb shoulder.

I really like my Pyrex #7756 percolator.

Mrs. Battlehymn says I make a mess out of everything else I do in the kitchen, so I haven't really gotten attached to anything else.

Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Great for any large cut of meat.   You could do a ham, pork butt, whole chickens, etc.
Uses very little gas, and cooks quickly.   Paid 100 for it, at Lowes, plus I had to buy a gas bottle.    Just awesome.
