He's only just now voted for the first time?
I've voted in every election since I turned 18.
While I know I'm just one person and my vote will almost certainly be cancelled out by another vote, I still vote, largely for two reasons:
1. I feel it's my civic duty as a US citizen.
2. Voting, I believe, gives us a License to Complain. To put it another way, if you don't take part in the democratic/ political process by voting, you don't have much of a right to complain when the process/ system doesn't go your way and elected officials do things you don't approve of.
