Saw it for the first time last night.
I wanted to like it. I could see what Aronofsky wanted to do but it seems the execution was somewhat muddled. For example...
I would have made the end a little less Lord-of-the-Rings-ish. The Watchers swatting away at the Cainites just looked out of place in a movie trying to give the story a naturalistic feel. I would have made the Watchers appear as stone, fire, water etc. to coincide with how humanity has always attributed spiritual significance to these phenomenon.
A lot of the CGI looked 2nd rate. A lot of the directing seemed as if people weren't sure about how to portray their characters; much like how the acting in a pilot of a TV series is different from how the actors portray their characters a season later.
I liked the idea of seeing animals you think you could recognize from modern creatures but were meant to show ancestral forms. It's a nod to the fact that natural selection and scripture are not mutually exclusive ideas. However, in that same light I was disappointed that Noah and his family were all lily white. Mixed race actors would have filled the roles much better.
meh
Some initial thoughts.
