Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

thanks to ACORN, missouri is always a battle.  especially StL county.  I have heard from people who live there
that they have cleaned things up, but I watched the dem primary very carefully, and StL county held out until
literally every other county was in and counted, and then StL county supplied obama's razor thin margin of victory.

it looked as crooked as it could be.

I think I posted Gov. Blunt's statement somewhere here....

Good for him, somebody has to stand up against that thug from Chicago and his gang. Every day that goes by, I should take a pool on which Amendment he violated this day. This needs to stop now, he's trying Banana Republic ways to *win* the White House. Those two asshats i9n Missouri should be relieved of their jobs until all the kool aid gets out of their blood system.

It is.  KC used to be just as bad but has gotten away from the machine somewhat over the past decade or so.

Kansas needs to get rid of that idiot governor, but then I'm one to talk...Gregoire (gag)...

Yeah...St. Louis...that was the area that let all those people vote after the polls were closed elsewhere a few years back. ACORN is still in that bailout bill, the Democrat's version.

yep.  that happens every election.  the dems find a sympathetic federal judge to extend the time that the polls are open in order to keep from violating the voters' "civil rights".  if the mccain campaign is smart, they will have an attorney in ready response mode to oppose them.

From the horse's mouth

Think I'll go drop this on some libs...
My fellow Americans, there is nothing audacious about hope. Hope is what makes people buy lottery tickets instead of paying the bills. Hope is for the old gals feeding the slots in Atlantic City. It destroys the inner-city kid who quits school because he hopes he'll be a world-famous recording artist.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?

One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy.

The other kills her own food.

Nothing surprises me here. Claire McCaskill is a horrible person. She was the state auditor and intimidated many people with the threats of audits. Her husband owned many dubious nursing homes and there were questions about her covering for him, but she's a typical slick dem.

Unfortunately Matt Blunt is a lame duck governor, deciding not to run for reelection. The dems have their knives out for him.

Acorn is the worst. The dems constantly have folks voting from the graveyard in the City and the County isn't much better. Sadly the dems got control of St Louis County government.

I refrained from slamming StL even more than I did out of respect for SLW.  the place is a cesspool.  I hope we have a ton of lawyers at the ready to combat all the shit that will go down there.

Too bad the Govenor didn't come right out and call for their resignations.  I know he can't fire them, but he sure could call for the public to "fire" them during the next election cycle.

It would also be ok with me if he told his AG to keep tabs on them to ensure that they are not violating anyones civil rights by intimidation.

:thatsright:  What the hell am I thnking?  It StL...  The moonbats would just re-elect the asshats anyway.

When I saw this late last night my first thought was, "Can he really do something like this". Obama has run this kind of crappy campaign from the start. The thugs moved in for intimidation, then they called us racist for even one word of dissent. What next?? Thanks Governor Blunt for stopping this circus.

McCaskill was promoting Obama from day one in hopes he would choose her as a running mate. Was she one of the SDs who gave her vote to Obama although the voters said otherwise?

I put this on a board that is frequented by a more left leaning sort, and this is one of the responses I got.

Yeah, it's not showing up on CNN or anything and I asked my friends in Missouri about it.  They don't have a clue what I'm talking about, so I'm guessing it's just Blunt shooting off at the mouth as he's apt to do.

So basically, if it's not on CNN, there's nothing to it.  That was always my first credibility test for a story, whether or not it's on CNN.

Funny I put on CNN and heard exactly what I expected to:

Unfortunately the AG is the Dem candidate for the Governors replacement......I don't really expect that to happen.......

No offense to anyone in St. Louis and Missouri, the idea of Obama supporters prosecuting people is scary. What is going on with your state? It has had a lot of weird things going on there lately.

If it's even true, it's an empty threat.  Obama would have to show up in person as the complainant in any trial.

Not to mention that slander and libel of a "public" personality have some very high legal hurdles to clear even before a trial......without even considering that pesky 1st amendment thingy.....

Or that Civil Authorities have NO STANDING WHATEVER in such cases. Their ONLY STANDING is in CRIMINAL prosecution. So, when they threaten from an OFFICIAL position things OUTSIDE their perview, thay are acting under "color of law" and subject to criminal prosecution and civil liability themselves.

I agree, however the problem becomes who will prosecute them if the exceed their mandate.........basically this is an intimidation tactic, and these folks pulled the same stunt on the NRA.  However, I think that they found out that the NRA was not a toothless dog, and was entirely capable of biting back.....

It would be a federal prosecution under 18 USC 241 and 242.
