Title: I bought 4 movies last night.
Post by: Mr Mannn on March 01, 2017, 03:36:36 PM
as long as I am stuck at home. I have 1 good movie, Marvel's civil war (not seen it yet).
and three cheesy Sy-Fy movies that will likely suck. I have been ruined forever by MST3K.

the bad movies are:
Queen Crab: Heroes race to kill a giant man-eating crab before it can lay eggs.
Grabbers: not sure, but a bunch of tentacles threaten a beach side home.
Terrordactyl: flying reptiles attack a big city.

I will update this with reviews so you won't need to waste you money...but i do love cheesey movies!

Wow, what a coincidence, because today in the mail I received a DVD of the 2002 movie Napoleon; it's a whooping six hours long, and worth every second of it.

On the way--in the mail, they haven't gotten here yet--are DVDs of the 1972 BBC 20-part production of War and Peace, about nine hours of watching and the 1967 Soviet Socialist production of the same, about eight hours of watching.

<<<can hardly wait.

<<<watches movies on youtube first, before deciding whether or not to get own DVD of it.

My wife and I bought several "collections" of old sci-fi movies from the 50's. They're great if nothing else is on. You can get 20-30 movies in those collections for under $20.

Some are so bad, they're good at being comedies.

All you need are a couple of smart ass robots and you're all set. I missed TV's Frank when he left the show.

I see you suffer from a condition called: Good Taste. Victims of this condition enrich their minds and lives with quality entertainment.

Please give generously so we can introduce cheesy movies into these otherwise sterling lives.

Well now, on occasion I love trash as well as the next guy.

If they're around, I devour the old Three Stooges short features.

It doesn't depend on my mood or feelings at the moment; it simply depends upon what's there.

You blew it! You should have gotten Shark Exorcist instead of Civil War. I like Civil War but it has no sharks and no exorcists who are sharks.

Also, Lady Terminator is probably the best Terminator movie after the first one.

And you might like Who Killed Captain Alex? based on this review. It looks like a lot of fun at any rate:

First movie, Queen Crab. 20 years ago, a little girl lived in the woods with her scientist parents who wre growing a growth food to feed the world. she made a pet from a crab and fed it the formula. wala, she has a giant crab who loves her today.

the acting is terrible, btw.

ok so now its killing cattle, and the sheriff gets involved. but the girl won't let anyone on her property. lots of people die, the eggs get destroyed, and the girl has a psychic link to the crab...which she uses to kill the evil deputy who arrested her.

locals with illegal 3weapons show up at the pond to kill it but it survives. the girl convinces a biologist that the crab would never hurt anyone (he conveniently forgets the death toll of 20 towns folk) and they come up with a plan to save the crab.

the crab shed its exoskeleton recently. they release that after the natl guard bombs the pond which has turned into a lake by now. everyone goes home happy.

final scene, the girl and her crab share a loving moment on the shore. the end.

1) all the heroes are amazingly stupid.
2) all the bad guys die
3) no one notices a giant crab that still lives ot check to see if it is really dead.
4) the movie was mostly bad drama and ran short on special effects (even those were bad).

conclusion: Stinker...worthy of MST3K.

Food of The Gods
A group of friends travel to a remote Canadian island to hunt, only to be attacked by giant killer animals which have populated the place.

Hate to say, but I saw that in the theaters back in the 70s! there was a tense scene where a guy was exploring a small shack at a farm. Jaws style music welled up, and he was attacked by a giant...chicken! the audience roared with laughter!  it was not a comedy, i swear.

If you hurry, you could be the first person to review this cinematic masterpiece on IMDB.

Civil War was awesome! heroes fighting heroes, a lot of diverse powers all going at the same time. Spiderman was hilarious!

AND it was not conveniently resolved at the end. good story telling all the way through!

terrordactyl was horrible. it tried to be a comedy adventure, but had NO jokes. MST3K could not even save this one.
--a meteor shower hit the LA area. some losers went out to get a meteor and get rich. they found an egg, but kept calling it a meteor. they were chased by 100's of terrordactyls, but never figured out why. the reptiles killed everyone but the main cast. i was rooting for the birds, alas they failed to kill a single annoying character.

Whoa.  I just got done watching, and ordering the DVD of, The Light Horsemen, a 1987 film about the Australians liberating the Gaza Strip back in 1917.  It was awesome.

It took hardly any imagination at all, to imagine the outnumbered Australians as decent and civilized people, and the Turks and their German "experts" as the primitives.

We watched, as a family, The Return of The Jedi last night.  I've never seen the three 'prequels.'  Or the seventh one.

Last week, I watched Plan 9 with the Riff Track people on Amazon Prime.

Then I watched Shriek of the Mutilated on YouTube. If you've never seen Shriek of the Mutilated, it is a must watch.

I should NOT have watched that video at work. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a movie review.

I followed your advice and watched Shriek of the Mutilated. I don't want to post spoilers; but it is MST material.

I think there is a certain level of competence to the film too. I didn't get bored watching it like I do at certain points with Plan 9. And Manos is unwatchable without the MST3K treatment IMO.

I agree with you Manos statement. I tried watching it w/out MST3K, and could only take 20 mins or so. I have to admit, I've never seen Plan 9....with or without MST3K treatment.

It's pretty good but loses steam in the last third before finishing strong.

Hmmmm...I'll have to see if it's on youtube. I've heard about it for years, and I've been meaning to watch it. I'm not sure why I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'm eagerly awaiting arrival of the DVD set of the 1970 BBC production The Six Wives of Henry VIII, which should arrive any day now.

I've been getting an "average" of one DVD or DVD set a week the past several months, which encompasses both movies and music.

Two years ago, if anyone had suggested I'd be doing this, I would've said the person was nuts; it being impossible, it wasn't anything likely to happen.

And then the world turned upside down (May 2015) and nothing's been the same since.

After the six wives gets here, I'll order a DVD of the 2002 Russian movie Taras Bulba; ostensibly it's a Vladimir Putin propaganda piece, but what I saw of it on youtube, I didn't see any of that in it.

I decided I'm not going to waste my time "researching" Hollywood epics on youtube; they're always disappointments.  This week, I watched Tripoli Action (1950) and Bengal Rifles (1954) which turned out grievous disappointments.

Row-mance surfeited both of them.

That's apparently what Hollywood used to do with movies; inject romance even where it wasn't really appropriate for a story.

Just like anybody and everybody else, I like romance.....in its place.

I watched it on youtube last night. Plan 9 is by no means the worst movie ever made. I actually found it watchable. Manos, on the other hand (no pun intended), was garbage.

In a way, I see the original Night of the Living Dead as, almost, a rip off of Plan 9. It's essentially Plan 9 without the aliens.

So, then . . . it's a story about the Obama presidency? :whistling:

I think my favorite MST3K is Mitchell with Joe Don Baker.

Manos has its moments with MST3K but Mitchell had me in stitches.

MST3K is also on You Tube for free. my Favorites:

The beginning of the end: Giant Man eating grasshoppers
The Deadly Mantis: a single giant man eating praying mantis
The thing that wouldn't die: the head of a 15th century sorcerer is found alive and it takes over minds

I've looked on YouTube, but I haven't been able to find MST3K. I watched 4 episodes yesterday, and my 2 fav so far are Pumaman & Space Revolt. Manos was barely watchable w/the treatment.
