My wife got back from England earlier tonight. :yahoo:
She got us all stuff when she was over there, but what she got me was this:

Instant White Tea.
(Instant tea powder with sugar and dried milk)
I have been retarded for this stuff since I stumbled on it in the British equivalent of MRE's a few years back.
I have hoarded envelopes that I drag out once in a blue moon and she brings me home a whole jar!
Of course the person she was with called it pure rubbish and asked who the hell would drink it willingly but that's neither here nor there.
I love the stuff.
Does anyone have any specific foriegn foods that they crave? A fine Lotto or Goya product perhaps?

The foreign food I crave can only be found in very few areas here in the US, not where I live, though. That is...... Lumpia. It's a Filipino eggroll. There's also the banana ketchup they have over there in the Philippines.

My MIL's family made those things by the gross when we were visiting them in the PI.
I didn't even care where the meat was coming from they were so good.

Another PI delicacy was what we called "monkey meat on a stick". Was some sort of BBQed meat that was sold by the street vendors in Olongapo. :yum:

When I was there in Tokyo area, beer in the vending machines was ¥100. That was a little less than 50¢.

I absolutely love this incredibly smelly nasty cheese from Italy. They stock it at the Italian deli down the road from here. It is called "Italian Cheese" so I can't tell you what the real name is. It smells a little like really old dried up barf.

Ah, yes--the stuff that was nearly guaranteed to give you Hepatitus, being that they soaked it in Shit River to soften the meat.
Tacos and lumpia at Via's (cross Shit River bridge, turn right, on right about 2 blocks down). Pancit Bihon at Island Girls. Chase it down with San Magoo, then follow that up with a pitcher of Bullfrog or Mojo.
Japan--"Stick Dog" and Chu-hi's on the "Honch" outside the gate at Yokosuka. ANY ramen place in Yoko or Tokyo. Also the first place that not only sold beer in vending machines on the street, but HOT coffee in cans. I used to hit the local convenience stores out in town while we were there on Westpac and load up on their geedunk.
Korea--Burgers at the club in Chinhae.
Hong Kong--ANYPLACE. China Fleet Club while it was still open.
Thailand--Best seafood ever. Last time I was in Pattaya, I paid 250 baht (about $9 at the time) for a "combination seafood platter". The waiter asked, "Are you SURE you want that?" to which I answered in the affirmative. I got a PLATTER the size of a waitress platter FILLED with everything imaginable (and some things not) which came from the ocean, with stuff like octopus, squid, prawns, an ENTIRE grilled fish. Then I knew why the waiter asked what he did. I shared most of my food with a Russian family at the table next to mine who kept me in vodka throughout dinner.
Sydney--Grill your own steaks in a little place down by The Rocks. And yes, I tried vegemite. No, I did NOT like it.

Jewish.....potato pancakes, blinis.
Greek....lamb dishes, pastries.
Austrian....pastries.
Irish....lamb stew, hot chocolate, apple desserts.
I looooove fooooood. :-) :-)

Lotsa British foods, but my mum finds them one way or another so we indulge on occasion. I miss some of the freshly made Jamacain or Cuban delicacies from when I lived in Miami though. I love Badia spices too. Fortunately, I can find a limited assortment of them at the Giant Eagle.

I'm glad she went to Betty's. If we had been able to meet up it was one place I hoped to take her, I have some family in Harrogate it's a lovely town.

If you have a Marshall's or Ross's ...they have Walker's shortbread at about 1/2 what it is at the grocery.... :-)...it's so perfect with hot tea!

MUI to buy food from a Street Vendor il almost any non-Western country is to take your life in your hands. Even that guy that eats all the weird food on Travel Channel or whatever won't do ir.
I won't do it in Mexico and I go there many times a year.

Just because YOU'RE a wimp doesn't mean I am..... I've purchased tacos from the street vendors of Tijuana, :yum: all sorts of stuff from the street vendors in the Philippines, Atsugi, Japan, Naples, Italy, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, etc etc etc Never ONCE got ill from ANY of it. Of course, Taco Bell cleans me right out.......

One scoop macaroni salad, two scoops rice, and some Kalua pork.

There is a dive of a restaurant a mile or so from Odakyu-Sagamihara rail station near the Sagamihara Family Housing Area in Japan. It's called Mankin Gyoza House but all the GIs and families called it Charlies. He didn't make the typical pan fried on one side Japanese gyoza, he overstuffed them when he made them and deep fried them in an oil and water mixture. The outside almost had the texture of a bagel - a little crunchy and a little chewy. That, and his bon-bonji salad that was sort of a chicken salad with some sort of ginger dressing and I think they were thousand-year eggs. Phenominal!
If the wife and I ever hit the lottery, we're going back! :-)
