There is currently an outbreak of measles in New York City. Considered eliminated in the United States in 2000, last year saw a record number of outbreaks around the country. It’s only three months into 2014, and not only is the nation’s largest city seeing cases in several boroughs, but other major metropolitan areas are warning of new cases as well.

This is not some inconvenience to be laughed off. Measles is a highly-contagious illness caused by a virus. It usually presents with a combination of rash, fevers, cough and runny nose, as well as characteristic spots in the mouth. Most patients recover after an unpleasant but relatively uneventful period of sickness. Unfortunately, about one patient in every 1,000 develops inflammation of the brain, and one to three cases per 1000 in the United States result in death.

Vaccine-deniers are responsible to the resurgence of once-eliminated illnesses. Their movement is responsible for sickening people. They are to blame for the word “outbreak” appearing in headlines from coast to coast.

Reports from New York note that several people have been hospitalized, and infected patients include infants too young to be vaccinated themselves. Because the American public hasn’t needed to worry much about this once-contained threat in quite some time, most people probably don’t know that measles can kill, or leave children permanently disabled.

We vaccinate people for a reason.

I wonder if Zappaman is aware that most of the Anti-vaxxers also believe in global warming and are major Obama contributors.. So much for the 'party of enlightenment'.

The only famous Republican I can think of is Michele Bachmann - who believes that Guardacil is harmful and was released without sufficient testing because of an adverse reaction with her daughter.

Most of these people believe that 'Big Pharma' (save for Michele Bachmann) is intentionally poisoning people to keep them dependent on drugs, and that the rise in Autism is directly tied to the increase in the number of vaccines kids get. Seriously.

And certainly, there are some who are anti-vaccination for religious reasons. They are in the minority.

Anyway global warmists and anti-vaxxers are usually the same people.

That also seems to be the source of recent outbreaks of other conquered diseases, too.  Tuberculosis has been making a comeback in the southwest in recent years.

One would think, but evidence suggests otherwise. The problem seems to be tied to liberalism. Check this map out ;

Mexico actually has a universal vaccination program, and AFAIK, its citizens have no choice but to participate. And it shows.  Most of the outbreaks in the USA are centered around liberal meccas. I would think that if the problem was because of conservative zealots, the outbreaks would center over the heartland, but no. The same is true with infected Europe (which is pretty much all liberals at this time) - In Africa and India's cases, I can only speculate that disease is rampant because of poverty.

My lung doctor just made me get a whopping cough vaccine because he said that people are not immunizing their children.  Even though we got the shot as children they are now no longer effective.  I can see from the map why he wanted me to get one.

When I was in the Army, years and years ago, I had a 30 day leave before I was shipping to Germany for a year. While I was at home, I got the measles. Spent most of my leave in bed.

They are putting the vaccine for the whooping cough in the same shot as the tetanus vaccine now as well.

For all the old timers, remember the round scars on the upper arm that we would get from the small pox shots ?

Ugly and disfiguring, some savvy moms would have the scar placed on a child's hip, mine did as her mother had done for her.

Growing up there was no shots to prevent measles, chicken pox, whooping cough or mumps.   We just had to live with all these diseases as a right of passage.    Sad as today any of us who had chicken pox now as adults have to worry about getting shingles.

Measles was a worry, had to be kept out of the sun due to eye damage, mumps darn near killed my BIL as the fever burned out part of his brain.

 Heard of some women that had been around people while early pregnant that had been in contact with someone with chicken pox or measles and had baby's born with wicked problems.  See the movie, The Mirror Cracked, classic.

As far as all the problems today with autism, ADD and odd behavior in children, I still believe these are due to misdiagnose and the need to explain problems due to the changes in society.   Much of this is due to the need to control their environment and learn early how to do so.

I have seen some really messed up kids due to physical or mental problems, no blame on their parents or their life style, genetics comes in here.     Then there are children born to the drug or boozers that have to go into with draw at birth.

It is possible some vaccinations may be given too soon before the child's immune system kicks in and cause problems.   

I cannot remember a child under say 24 months getting any of the above diseases except whooping cough.  I am sure there are a lot of people out there that did have a baby come down with these diseases but not in my personal experiences.

Devils advocate,-------- I am not forgetting the drug given to woman--in the 60's that caused the baby's to be born with flippers and other deformities.

Has to be an answer here,   Me I got my kids most of them anyway when they were older, with two boys the tetanus shots twice as often then the girls.

You may be quite correct on that Johnny, this may be the answer I have been looking for.

I never got the scar either but I was raised on whole raw milk for years.

When my first was born she also drank raw milk for the first 2 years, and she was the problem one.

A Navy Doc. told me I must have a natural immunity to small pox and may have passed it on to my kids so no shots for them either.   

Came summer vacation my daughter was 9 years old and went to spend 3 weeks or so with my parents, I had explained to them that none of my kids were to have the shot due to Dr's advice.   Mother who always has done as she pleased ignored me and when a Church had a free vaccination clinic marched her up there and got her the shot.

12 hours later my daughter was having convulsions.  She did get the scar and later in life had it disguised with a tattoo.

Cow pox that the milk maids got would protect them from the small pox long ago, but with pasteurisation and harmonisation so much was lost.


Funny as I look back when she and I were both drinking raw milk we went to dinner at my parents home and when she got a glass of milk she would not drink it, the store bought milk was the wrong color, almost a blue tint compaired to raw milk.
