Dems show no signs of returning (Indiana)

Dems show no signs of returning

It's officially been a month since the Indiana House Democrats left the state and there is still no end in sight.

Rep. Randy Truitt, R-West Lafayette, said the Republicans weren't sure when the Democrats were coming back, or even if they would come back.

The Democrats originally left to deny the Republicans a quorum. This prevented voting on an anti-union bill but, after the bill was thrown out, their stay continued: This time, for voucher bills as well as amendments to the budget that cut education spending.

While the Democrats are away, Truitt said the Senate and the House are going to continue to do their "constitutional" duty.

"The Senate began hearings (March 21) about the budget," Truitt said. "The House will also start hearing Senate bills."

If I were the Gov. I would order their pay checks stopped and held in escrow until they return.

They aren't doing their job, therefore don't deserve to get paid.  I'd also order the Secretary of Treasury or whomever to cancel their government expense accounts/credit cards etc.

Was it the Indiana Democrats that were having their hotel rooms paid for by unions?

Rumor has it that the WI dems that ran away earlier this month did.

I knew it was one of the Dem groups, but couldn't remember.  Probably both of them anyway.

Yep democracy in action, when the numbers aren't in your favor you simply run away and stop the people who were voted in office from doing their job.  :banghead:
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Ind. Democrats end boycott, return to Statehouse

Indiana House Democrats who fled the state five weeks ago to protest a Republican agenda they considered an assault on labor unions and public education returned to the Statehouse on Monday and resumed work.

"We're coming back after softening the radical agenda," said Bauer, D-South Bend, whose return was greeted by cheering union workers. "We won a battle, but we recognize the war goes on."
Washington Examiner

It's a war... Democrats vs. everybody else.

I'm reminded of 5 year olds that hold their breath............
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

I wish the democrats in my state would take a vacation, we could enact merit-pay for teachers, public employee workers will contribute more to their health insurance costs, we would cut state spending and reduce taxes. If democrats leave Washington for a while, we would actually get to cut spending and repeal this horrible healthcare law.

Salary payment plan for the House and Senate when the country was founded should be returned to.  Knowing amount would be higher, the basic principle was;

$1,500.00 per year for working 250 days per year.
If you missed work one of those days - $6.00 was deducted per day missed.

i.e. ---- 250 days@$6.00 per day = $1,500.00

President earned a 'kingly' sum of $25,000.00 per year, but he had to pay his cabinet himself from his expense funds[ it sure kept the number of cabinet members lower - President George Washington only had 5; Sec. of State, Sec. of Treasury, Sec. of War, Attorney General and Postmaster General. [Interesting note - Washington refused his salary - the next Pres. that followed the no salary idea was John F. Kennedy, who donated his to charity]

Vice-Presidents earned $5,000.00
