Prop 8 nixes my taxes, Etheridge says
« on: November 07, 2008, 12:15:53 PM »
Quote
How mad is Melissa Etheridge about California's rejection of gay marriage? Mad enough to withhold her taxes.

The rocker, married five years to actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, posted a fiery blog Thursday about the passage of Proposition 8, which limits marriage to heterosexual couples.

"I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen," Etheridge wrote at thedaily beast.com. "I mean, that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights."

The idea, she wrote, also could extend to other gay Californians: "I am sure Ellen [DeGeneres] will be a little excited to keep her bazillion bucks that she pays in taxes too."

Ah I see....liberal "logic".  Pay your taxes and you are "given" rights in return.   :whatever:

:lmao: What do they think they can withhold taxes like liberals withhold spending at Walmart.  Liberals are going to ban the government now. Good luck with that. :lmao:

So is Melissa saying that everyone who voted for McCain doesn't have to pay federal taxes? I'm sure she'll get a lot of support for that proposition, perhaps not from her usual constituency.

lets see how that works out for her...

My fellow Americans, there is nothing audacious about hope. Hope is what makes people buy lottery tickets instead of paying the bills. Hope is for the old gals feeding the slots in Atlantic City. It destroys the inner-city kid who quits school because he hopes he'll be a world-famous recording artist.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?

One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy.

The other kills her own food.

Wooo Hooo!!!  This is great news!!  As soon as the 'O' administration reinstates the assault weapon ban and tries to remove guns from our society I no longer have to pay any federal taxes at all!!!

oh happy day.

Yeah, I'm in if that's the case.  :evillaugh: I imagined that 70% of unwed mothers though that voted for Obama aren't going to be too happy when their gas tanks go empty if McCain voters bow out of the tax systems. Oh well, I'm sure Warren Buffet will open up his big wallet and become the sugar(baby) daddy to all those lovelorn souls.  :uhsure:

Speaking of taxes:

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers, he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. What happens to the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’ declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, ‘But he got $10!’

‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’

‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’

‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important.

They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas, 1944

you wealthy hollywood types seem to forget that it is your patriotic duty to have your wealth spread around - Obamarx commands it. Neither your vote nor your sexuality may negate that duty - So - unless you want to join us conservatives in the Obamarx reeducation camps - Id open up that checkbook pronto..

You have just reminded me that it is about time I re-read Atlas Shrugged.  :evillaugh:

Remember to save the "big speech" for one sitting. it's like 60 pages.

Better headline for the story...

"Joe Biden questions Etheridge's patriotism"
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

instead of the price cut, the obama tax plan would look something like this:

the first four guys get paid $2
the fifth guy pays nothing
the sixth guy pays $1
the seventh guy pays $5 (that targeted middle class cut, ya know)
the eighth guy pays $12
the ninth guy pays $20 (he makes over 100K a year, he can afford it)
the last guy pays $70

last guy doesn't get beat up, just decides that his money could find a better use elsewhere, so he fires his workers (the brewery that provides the beer) and closes up shop, moving to Monaco.

End result:  no beer, no jobs to buy different brand of beer, and no tenth guy to get tax revenue from...
