Here's another liberal member of Boehner's team that is actively promoting Obamatrade, but hasn't even read a line of it.
Mika Brzezinski/MSNBC morning Joe co-host noted that Rep. Mimi Walters (R-CA) "is the official liaison between House GOP freshmen and Speaker Rep. John Boehner(R-OH)"...what is this? MSNBC is privy to what our taxpayer staff is assigned to? Anyway, time for some spin:
Walters: "Currently, what we are working on is Trade Promotion Authority. That issue we expect to take up by the end of the month. And what Trade Promotion Authority, known as TPA, is it’s really the framework of giving the president the opportunity to negotiate trade agreements with other countries. It’s very, very important that we pass this piece of legislation. It’s bipartisan. One in five jobs in America are created because of free trade, 95 percent of consumers are outside of the United States and if America doesn’t take the lead on trade then China is going to. I want America to take the lead and set the standards on trade."
Later in the day Breitbart asked Christine Hardman, Walters' spokeswoman (What? Does each Rep. get their own private spokesperson?) if she read the bill, & the answer was, no, she hadn't been to the secret room in the basement where the coveted Obamatrade bill lies, enrobed in a tomb of secrecy.
Now ya'll listen to this spin. & unless I don't understand English, well, it appears to me its topsy turvy.
Hardman: "...With the impending passage of TPA, Rep. Walters will be exercising the numerous congressional oversight rights. It is important to remember that without TPA, President Obama would have much more power to negotiate Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Without TPA, the President would have unlimited authority to negotiate FTAs while keeping Congress and the American public in the dark." Wow, is this why Obama wants to pass it so badly? He wants less power? Huh?
“The TPP holds great economic potential in that it proposes to further integrate 12 diverse economies in the Asia-Pacific region."
"Representative Walters supports TPA because it empowers Congress, not President Obama." How? Congress wouldn't get to change a thing, & just have an up or down vote.
Now its my understanding that this would give O much more unilateral power to not only execute trade deals, but to limit Congress's involvement. Am I wrong on this?
Bottom line: Hardman must be a genius. She knows all the details of TPP without having read any text.
