DU is not representative of America any more
When I landed here over ten years ago it was.

But after Bush became president I tried warning posters here and friends I knew what was about to happen and what to do about it because I had survived through something very similar during 8 years of Reagan and I was well aware what was about to happen and I began to prepare for it early on.

My wife and I went from upper middle class to dirt poor during the 1980's so it was like deja vu to my wife and I. And when I say poor, I mean poor. Real poor. Welfare poor. Soup kitchen and food stamp poor. That poor. So we were pretty sure what was coming.

When Bush became president we were prepared for what was about to happen. Tried telling our two grown children what was about to happen too. One listened. One didn't. The one who listened did pretty good for herself. The one who didn't ended up bankrupt and in deep stuff with no end in sight for her. I had friends and family who I tried to tell too. Some of them listened and held their own. Some of them ignored what I was trying to tell them and they kept spending like it couldn't ever end for them. But it ended.

Same thing happened at DU. We used to have a lot of blue collar middle class posters here. But most of them are gone now. They lost their homes. Their Internet connections. They lost everything. And they are all pretty much gone from DU now.

Most of those posters stopped posting here over ten years ago. It wasn't their fault. They just didn't understand what was coming. Maybe they were too young? Or they weren't really effected by the 1980's and never thought it could happen to them until it was too late.

The majority of DUers we have left here now are upper middle class white collar workers who were able to weather the initial storm and hold on until now. But even some of them are in trouble now.

That is what happened.

Don

DU has never been mainstream.

Why do you think that Skimmer was given money by the DNC to start DU? It was to keep all of the wacko primitives in one place.

have gone fom being upper to poor. There was a time when all I had to say, is: I want, and it was mine. Gone from making over 100k to about 16k. I'm still here.

Must have been when the auto companies outsourced their janitorial service and you couldn't find another 30.00 per hour to DUmp trash.

I'm better off than a lot of people but that' not saying a lot. I saw what the future would be under Nixon. Reagan just accelerated what was already started.

You got nothing and you're better off than most?

Hummm. (DUmmy reasoning escapes me)

Those DUmmies went from nothing to more nothing because they were sucking on the government teet. They never worked a day in their lives. They don't know what it is like to get up early in the morning and put a 50+ hours a week in to provide for their families. They only know hoe to sponge off the government.

He is full of crap about Reagan also. When Reagan was President, everyone was making money. The 80's were some of the best times for growth and income. That moron probably voted for Carter in 1980 and then found his government hand out check shrink.

What a ****ing pantload.

Let's start here:

Quote
When I landed here over ten years ago...

> 10 years ago.

Got that?

DU started 20 January 2001 as a snub against Shrub. That means it's been around approximately 11.5 years.

So his timeframe is > 10 but < 11.5.

Quote
Most of those posters stopped posting here over ten years ago...

That means they stopped posting > 10 years ago.

 Which means most of them stopped posting before or jsut after Don says he became a member...

...but their lives touched him so intimately...

...

...like #HarryReidIsAPederast touches young boys.

He is full of crap about Reagan also. When Reagan was President, everyone was making money. The 80's were some of the best times for growth and income. That moron probably voted for Carter in 1980 and then found his government hand out check shrink.

Don is a retired auto worker. I don't know the exact dates (Frank assuredly does) but I'll wager that Don's tenure + his time in retirement would abut/overlap Reagan's administration.

Really? that's funny because I've posted with Democrats who were Clinton supporters and they tried posting at DU and either left because the people at DU were "nuts" or they were booted because they weren't considered "left" enough. JFK and Clinton with their views? they wouldn't be able to post there either.

Grouchy old Don has a memory problem.

He was born in 1952 or 1953, and started working on the automobile assembly line in Chicago in 1971, when he was eighteen years old, right out of high school.

He retired after 30 years on the job with a full pension sometime during the first term of George Bush; it was more than 30 years from 1971 (but not much more), but apparently his times on lay-off didn't count towards that thirty years.

Grouchy old Don thought he had it all figured out; if he'd take care of the Machine, the Machine would take care of him.  So from the time he was 18 years old, he diligently voted for the Machine.  Now he's raising Hell because he can't afford his local and county (Cook County) taxes on his pension; his taxes just keep going up and up and up every year, and his pension isn't keeping up with them.

Yeah, the Machine's taking really good care of grouchy old Don.

Anyway, more to the point, grouchy old Don mixes things up.  He equates the recession-ridden 1970s with Ronald Reagan, and the prosperity-laden 1980s with Jimmy Carter.  He talks about lay-offs and inflation and then blames Reagan, and then he talks about the good times, and credits Carter.

And he knows he's lying, but he's hoping the primitives can't remember when Carter was president, and when Reagan was president.  Grouchy old Don knows he's lying, when he does that.   He's not senile yet; he knows.

So he is taking the failures of Carter and blaming them on Reagan. That sounds familiar, where did I hear that before? Oh yeah, obama blames all his failures on Bush. I guess the DUmmies are just prone to blame other people for their stupidity.

"I could say 'I want', and it's mine". On 100K a year. Methinks I see the problem. Not one of these boobs mentions if they had a 401K or retirement plan (other than pensions) set up. I'm thinking not.

The DUmp was slightly more representative until the great Willy '24 Business Hours" Pitt put out the Rove being frogmarched story. That got a lot of the semi-sane posters like Old Lefty Lawyer tombstoned or disgusted. Then of course the grand Hillary supporter purges (I think there were at least 5 of those). Then came the grand 0bama purges for not being 0bama enough.  Now the DUches really are just the dregs of society with no redeeming values other than unknowingly being funny.

He has an Illinois Bell retirement (non-union).

He has a Navy (38 years, mostly reserve) retirement.

Mom has an IB retirement.

The only thing that has 'changed' about DU is your lack of unity. When you had a common enemy (GW Bush) You could all howl at everything he did, regardless of what it was. You could blame all of the world's ills on him.

You were all happy.

Now however --

Most of the things you disliked about 'Chimpy McCokespoon' still persist under Obama. Your tiny little minds and shriveled blackened souls are incapable of understanding how the imaginary savior you built up in Obama doesn't really exist, and you are too vain to admit that you were duped by one of your own.

Too bad, primitive.

-But their is a silver lining-

If Obama loses, and the Senate flips back to Republican control, you will all be united by your hatred again - and DU will flourish.

The Producer? WOW! I didn't know that.
In preparing for my post, I nadined him and he came up on this list of notable DUers.

Quote
Ben Burch, noted sexworkers’ rights activist;
Wes Clark, Jr., the son of Wesley Clark;
John Conyers, member of the House of Representatives from Michigan;
Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of John Edwards;
Christopher Heinz, a son of Teresa Heinz Kerry;
Larry C. Johnson, a former CIA agent;
William Rivers Pitt, liberal activist and author;
David L. Wolper, noted filmmaker.

That someone of Wolper's accomplisment can be lumped in with the likes of Fat Che and professional slacker and drunk, William Rivers Pitt, just doesn't seem right.

Elizabeth Edwards left the DUmp in disgust, I think after they attacked Laura Ingram for having cancer. Poor lady, she had this lifetime habit of making poor choices.

What a joke.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
