This post reminds me of what made DU great.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026468809

In the good old days with the mods and before juries we would get into fights and the mods would delete posts and lock threads. It made DU fun. With the jury system "community standards" and fun have diminished.

I know the jury system is well intentioned, but we should realize that DU is not an academic institution. It's a way for us to learn, teach, interact, kill time, and have fun. And the occasional silly flamewar is certainly that.

DU used to be the best moderated forum on the Internet. I wish we could to back to what made us great.

You were never great. Just a laughing stock.

They don't know right from wrong.
They have to be told it with a threat of discipline constantly hanging over their heads.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Which do you prefer?

A forum run by three nuts, or a forum run by a hundred nuts?

I don't know.  When you have that chance of being flamed because of something you said you might choose your words more carefully instead of just a mod deleting or locking posts.  It's kinda like you let your kid touch the burner once because they learn not to do it again  :-)

I get the same entertainment value out of either.

I have never seen a forum like DU. Even long term members can be given time outs for deviating from the "normal" deviation that is DU.

And what the hell is up with being given "time outs"?  It's treating them like little kids  and they should feel insulted if they had half a normal intellect.

Typical. The left asks for more control over their lives and then bitch when they get it.
