gallup isn't the authoritative source for employment data, but closely tracks the government number, which is due out tomorrow (I believe).

this is very bad news for the country.  it is disastrous news for democrat congressional candidates;  this is the last number we will get before the midterms, and it is a punch to the gut.

I think the number of congressional seats that the republicans will win just jumped up.

Gallup says U.S. unemployment rate at 10.1 percent in September

Gallup's measure of underemployment — those working part-time who would prefer full-time jobs — increased to 18.8 percent in September, up from 18.6 percent in August.

Gallup reports that much of the increase in unemployment came in the second half of the month and is unlikely to be reflected in the employment report put out by the U.S. Labor Department tomorrow. Gallup expects that report will show a national unemployment rate in the 9.6 percent to 9.8 percent range.

"The government's final unemployment report before the midterm elections is based on job market conditions around mid-September," the report states. "The jobs picture could be deteriorating more rapidly than the government's job release suggests."

If it is in fact 10+ percent "officially" (although MUCH higher when you count the discouraged and underemployed) tomorrow, there's no saving the Dems next month.

Stating the obvious, I know, but there's no way they'll be able to spin THAT number.

more info at another link.  I am sure that all of those 18-29 year olds that flocked to the polls and voted for Teh Messiah are really satisfied right now.   :whatever:

Quote
Younger workers between 18 to 29 years of age and those with no college education were hardest hit, according to the poll.

Gallup says the change is "partially offset by fewer part-time workers, 8.7%, now wanting full-time work, down from 9.3% in August and 9.5% at the end of July."

The rate of those "underemployed" - mostly part-time workers - increased slightly to 18.8 percent suggesting that the number of workers employed part time but seeking full-time work is declining as the unemployment rate increases.  Gallup explains "this may reflect a reduced company demand for new part-time employees."

This rate is likely to not be reflected by federal numbers to be released Friday, Gallup says, because the government numbers are based on conditions around the middle of September.

Nevertheless, Gallup says the trend shows continuing high unemployment which does not help the economy, and could hurt retail sales during the holiday season.

Gallup concludes by saying, "The jobs picture could be deteriorating more rapidly than the government's job release suggests."

agree.  10% would bring carly fiorina (ok, not super thrilled about that, but it would unseat boxer, which is cool) and possibly christine o'donnell home, and endanger quite a few more dems that thought they were relatively safe last week.

boy, that flaccid stimulus really did fix everything good, didn't it? :sarcasm:

now, people will be even more outraged that the dems spent over a year highjacking my health insurance when they should have been worrying about the economy.  the dems pompously declared the economy "fixed" and proceeded to force their hyper-liberal agenda down our throats.  this isn't just bad news, it's the first domino.  the chain reaction will unfold from now until election day.

Does Gallup usually come out with an unemployment poll before the government releases numbers?  I'm wondering if Gallup coming out with 10% the day before and then tomorrow the government comes out and its around 9.9 and Obama declares victory?

if GWB was still president, the headline would be,

Unemployment still hovering near 10 percent as elections draw near, Republicans in Disarray

Well, where I REALLY throw the BS flag is where the U-6 number jumped up from 16.7 to 17.1 percent, because (as BLS claims) the number of people who want full-time employment, but can only find part-time.

yep.  agree.  something smells here.  just a guess, but it appears as though the feds managed to push some bad news into october.  the day after the midterms, the dept of labor will "adjust" the september numbers up to over 10%.

Actually, by then it won't matter because the October numbers will be due that Friday anyway.

They are quite happy to have people on food stamps and collecting un employment checks.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.
