The House GOP gathered for a secret vote on Wednesday to remove Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership position as the chair of the House Republican Conference.

The move is a victory for Rep. Matt Gaetz and his pro-Trump allies, who have been campaigning against Cheney and her direction for the GOP since January. At the time, Gaetz went to Cheney's home state and spoke to her constituents about her leadership failures.

Gaetz told an assembled crowd that they should "Defeat Liz Cheney in this upcoming election and Wyoming will bring Washington to its knees. How can you call yourself a representative when you don't represent the will of the people?"

Voice vote, so there isn't a record who voted what. I guess that's what they call "secret."

Anyway, the key thing on ol' Lizzie is that she didn't get ousted because of her hatred for Trump. She got ousted because she didn't do her damned job. Giving the Dems waaaaaay too much fodder, pissing on fellow Repubs by supporting their opponents, and other methods of just sticking a finger in her caucus's eye.

It took 'em way too long to get to this point. McCarthy is trying to be all things to all people (because he wants to be the next Speaker so bad he can taste it), but even he had to get off his ass and LEAD.

With any kinda luck, Lizzie, you'll do the duffle-bag drag outta Congress in January 2023.  :hyper:

Liz Cheney is a legend in her own mind.

I notice that there is some pushback on replacing her with the President's preference, Elise Stefanik.  She has had some minor differences with the MAGA agenda but don't confuse idoelogical purity with LOYALTY.  She was a ROCK STAR in the impeachment.  I love this video where she takes pencil neck to the woodshed:
