There Appears To Be A Organized Effort By The Repugs All Over The Country To do as much damage to this democracy as they can.

It's like they've been building up for years to this push and they are pulling out all the stops to do everything possible to make sure that they are in a position to regain power and this time never relinquish it again.

There's an air of desperation about their actions too and they have no guilt about how blatantly they are going about doing this. It is based on lies, racism and corruption.

They are leading with their chins and just daring the Dems to take them on - knowing that the Dems are really helpless in stopping them.

Through the years there has been a slow build-up by the Repugs to this moment in history. They seemingly, methodically and patiently shaped their strategy to win the States - governorship's and legislature's - so that they can enact laws that support their efforts.

It's like - well if the current laws don't work for us - let's just change the laws to allow us to get around them.

What they are doing is not being done in isolation. Their moves are calculated and being coordinated around the country. And they are going all out now to accomplish this.

I don't believe that the former guy is the brains behind this movement. In my opinion there is some other more sinister force that is puppet-ing this corrupt and what appears to be an illegal effort.

They are proceeding full speed ahead and even with all the negative press they are getting - there appears to be no stopping them.

They're either going to pull off a coup this time or really fail bigly in trying.

So... they are going through the legal process to change the laws they don't agree with? ANS this is what you call a coup?

1. I agree

For example, what’s the point of states, other than cruelty, for refusing the extra federal unemployment benefits? South Carolina and Montana have already cut them off. Kevin Brady, US House representative from Texas, has said other states will soon follow. Apparently, he means Texas. Americans are seriously struggling and this only harms them further. Republicans have become sadists on steroids.

It looks like they’re pushing fir a redo. I don’t think it will happen. They‘ll ultimately remain losers. Stay strong and what you can to fight back.

19. It just may in the best interests of CA, OR, WA, NY and the New England states to secede.

Others will follow like MI, IL, MN, etc.

They have more in common with Canadian provinces than TX or AL, for example.

There is NO language in the Constitution prohibiting secession and the 10th Amendment specifically forbids the federal government from powers not specifically declared in the document.

So...any secession referenda will instantly be a SCOTUS case.

3. That's really harsh.

I’m not helpless against Repugs and neither is the Democratic Party.

I view this period as fighting back well.
We are winning small important battles.

5. To blunt that effort the Biden team probably needs to get key senators and the Congressional Black Caucus behind locked doors with Joe Manchin, and educate him about where does he want his place to be in history regarding the current assault on voting rights, and that Biden's programs are popular with the public, so get on board with the Party and stop this phony whining about bipartisanship that's never going to happen..

 :thatsright:

14. Agreed

Manchin is loving the limelight he's basking in now, but needs to be whacked across the head with the implications for the country. Bipartisanship is a thing of the past, and he's being used as a tool by rethugs. Dems have to remain in power now, not as much for political ideals, but to keep America from being ruled by vile power-mad sociopaths.

10. This Is A Critical Period

The Republicans are increasingly a minority party and are pulling out all stops to remain in as much power as hey can.....enabled by the structural advantages they were seeded with.

I’m sure people in Germany thought they’d muddle through in the early Hitler years.

This is an all out battle against Trumpism and other nefarious Republicans.

There is no guarantee ever that the forces of Evil will be vanquished in time to avoid real trouble.

One glimmer of hope is that the ridiculous restrictions they are rushing to put in place will work at least as much to thwart Republican voters.

I hope we get through this period and come out well on the other side....but that’s no certainty.

Finally...Fat Orange Donnie has to be living on borrowed time, he’s way overweight and lives on Cheeseburgers.....no guarantee he will be alive by 2024.

13. What keeps me up at night...

Are big picture things that Rs have systematically maneuvered on, all of which have power to suppress/invalidate Democratic voters:

1. Republican controlled state legislatures, even with Democratic governors

2. Supreme Court

3. Totally out-of-control right-wing media apparatus

27. They tried the illegal coup with insurrection

Next is a hybrid of illegal and legal with the laws they passed in state legislatures and the corrupt judges they installed.

And we fight with what - lawyers and the US Constitution which Repubicans ignore anyway.

32. Whatever the Republicans' ultimate plan is, it won't be good for democracy or the US.

The Republican base is so gullible that Republicans could succeed in a coup in 2024 and install Trump as president, and their base would still believe that they live in a democracy. I think the usual suspects are behind Trump and Republicans in their attempt to achieve permanent rule: Koch Foundation, Mercers, Uihleins, DeVos family, tech giants like Zuckerberg, etc. These billionaires know that democracy will still be around for them because they have the money and power to essentially do anything they want. Indeed, Republicans would still have democratic rights. I question whether those rights would be available for the rest of us.

Republicans will pull every dirty trick they can think of to intimidate black and brown voters into not voting in the 2022 election. It is vitally important for Democrats to pass the jobs and infrastructure bill as soon as possible to give it time to start working for people so they can see progress by 2022. If Democrats stall and think they have plenty of time to negotiate with Republicans, they don’t. It takes time for big plans like this to filter down to the local level. If it starts helping people in states like Ohio and West Virginia, that could be enough to move Independents to vote for Democrats in the midterms. Adding a Senator Tim Ryan in Ohio would be great. Time’s a wasting, and Republicans have already said they’re not playing, so get that bill written and passed ASAP!

34. This plan to undermine democracy did not originate

At one time in the 47 states that the actions are taking place.

There has to have been coordination, someone(s) at the top.

It was not Trump, he’s evil enough but realistically he’s too stupid.

What the Federal Government should do - is identify the leader(s) and charge them with Sedition, Conspiracy and attempting to subvert the will of the people. Confiscate all there assets pending adjudication of the issues, and intern them during and until the adjudication of the issues as a threat to national security.

If found guilty, deport them to their desired home, Russia, and failing that then the resort in Cuba that we maintain.

My thoughts.

drives their elected politicians. MSNBC and CNN and others need to send reporters out to ask the average repug on the street why they hate Democrats and Liberals?

Reality:

Dems are trying to reform the electoral system, despite their insistence that the 2020 election was the most secure ever.

Dems have turned the justice department into their enforcers again.

Dems refuse to let go of their draconian COVID policies.

Dems are looking into expanding the Supreme Court.

Dems are using corporations to get around the Bill o Rights.

Dems want to throw their opponents in jail for opposing them "sedition".

Republicans are dividing and destroying the country.  ::)

There's more projection going on in this thread than when they had the Marvel Movie Marathon showing all of the films that led up to Avengers: Endgame.
