Probably was OK for the SC crowd, but for viewers at home it sounded very much pandering.

I posted the transcript, above. I understood it when he said that he was a Proud Christian, but when he went on and on about embracing the evangelicals and ended with Jesus Christ and, truthfully, I did not bother to listen to the complete sentence, it sounded gratuitous.

What bothers me about reaching for the evangelicals is that it is bound to be a one way. They will not compromise on anything, they will not try to meet us half way, or even a third of the way. They are the "value voters."

Well, I am a value voter. My values are an open society that respects others' opinions and privacy, where no one, especially a leader, claims to get his/her marching orders from his/her god.

My values are that taking care of the poor and the sick and the elderly is more important than helping millionaires keep their spoils.

My values are to be ashamed that so many CEOs make millions while their employees can barely make ends meet.

Especially since in 2004 the DUmmies and their ilk were petitioning and lobbying for Europeans to get a say in our Presidential elections.  Their argument was what we do effects the rest of the world, so the rest of the world should have a 'voice'.  Of course, this was when it was pretty much a conclusion Kerry was not going to win.

Kerry was never once ahead of President Bush in any meaningful poll.  Not once.  Then there was the swiftboats and Kerry's inability to clean his shit-covered shoe.  Then there was Dan Rather and CBS.  No one really thought Kerry had a chance.  It really wasn't that close of an election, when all was said and done.  It just looked that way on the surface, and in the media, who wanted it to look close.

I should have talked to you more that afternoon.   As it was, I was sick with worry for a day and a half when the exit polls all said that GWB was toast.
