okay, it's a report based on a national enquirer report, but they are the only publication in the country with
any credibility on this story (and how bad is it when THAT can be said?)

if it's true . . . damn.  just damn.

One-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards promised his mistress they would reunited once his cancer-stricken wife died, the National Enquirer reported.

The Enquirer - which first broke word of the Edwards scandal - also reported that mistress Rielle Hunter refuses to make Edwards take a paternity test because she fears it will jeopardize their future.

Edwards, who admitted the affair earlier this month after repeated denials, remains in contact with Hunter even now, according to the Enquirer.

The North Carolina politician called her after his Aug. 8 confession on national television, reportedly telling her: "We'll be together when Elizabeth is gone."

One day before Edwards went public with the affair, Hunter and 6-month-old daughter Frances were flown to the Virgin Islands on a chartered jet, the Enquirer reported

Part of me wants to laugh at Edwards' gall, part of me wants to hang my head.

how stupid is this chick?  real romantic guy that you can trust, yeah, I'm married, but my wife's gonna kick off soon so its sorta like I'm single and available...

I feel so bad for his wife..can't imagine what it must be like for her...no wait, I can imagine..she needs to kick his skanky lying ass to the curb and I can recommend just the attorney to do it..

apparently, she stayed with him because she didn't want her children to be fatherless after she was gone . . . .

and edwards didn't confess to his wife, the enquirer reported that someone in the campaign caught his in flagrante with
reille, it got out, and elizabeth confronted him.

this guy came within 80,000 votes of being vice president, and he was a leading candidate for the democrat nomination
for president. . . .

Whether you like Elizabeth Edwards or not...she's in a serious health crisis and it's only a matter of time before she dies.

I cannot imagine her physical pain.....but her emotional pain at finding out her "devoted" husband is not only sleeping around with someone she knows....which is worse than someone she doesn't.....but has also had a child with......has to far exceed her physical pain.

And what a sterling example he is for his children......

I can understand to a certain extent staying because of the kids but there has to be a point where one looks around and asks is this the kind of person I want raising my children and guiding their morals and values?

And I, too, understand your point.  This same Elizabeth Edwards stood next to her husband, who was was lying through his teeth when he was claiming how upstanding and family oriented he was, and in essance lied along with him.  I'm going to have to conclude that her morals and values aren't exactly up to par either, in which case, the kids can't catch a break either way.

I'm sure he told her some such outrageous BS with no intention to follow through, how anyone beyond the two of them would know about it is pretty hard to see, though.

I have been assuming that she is telling friends, and one or more of them is the enquirer's "source".

His children with Elizabeth will hate their father when they're old enough to understand this.  So not only has he hurt his wife, but he has alienated his kids as well. 
Although I'm not one bit surprised, he has snake written all over him, he just exudes phoniness..His "let's help the poor" gig was a farce and I can't believe there were people who believed in him.

^if you look closely at the photo from last year when they renewed their wedding vows, the eldest daughter (college age) looks pissed off. Could be a quirk - photos can catch a bad pose - but I swear it looks that way to me.
