One thing that struck me was how he said his plan wouldn't add a single dime to the deficit...

...just 900 billion in costs...

...which will be paid for in savings...

...taken from Medicare...

...but he won't cut Medicare...

...just wasteful spending.

Um-m-m...if you could control wasteful government spending you would be pointing to Medicare as a sucess story not as a drain on the system hoping to cover the costs of a massive system expansion.

I know I tend to find sub-text in a lot of things but I hope the average American picked-up on that.

BTW - DU is pretty despondent tonight...only the true believers remain and they are fighting a losing holding action.

Yep, it seems to me that going after the wasteful spending in medicare should be done in any event and shouldn't have to wait for healthcare legislation 4 years down the road. That's also a curious point, if the healthcare crisis is such an emergency, why are we waiting until what would be Barry's second term to implement?

I read the transcript....boring and divisive.  Good job Mr. President! :loser:

He is such an arrogant and naive prig. What he needed to do is appeal to the independents and he blew it. Marginalizing decent and hard working americans will blow in his face. This should be rich entertainment for all of us. :bday:

Amazing that all of this is being pushed back past the mid term elections and the next presidential election. It's almost like they know that this will be a failure, but they'll be able to campaign on getting it passed without the results being available.

I recently exchanged an email with a friend of mine who supports Obama and she said that after his speech last night, she was now more supportive than ever of his plan.  I am hopeful on one hand that most Americans don't buy into this crap, but oy, I lose all faith when I speak to friends like her.

It seems there are many people like your friend. 0Bama got a boost in the polls overnight for health care reform. I'm hoping that may change as the lies from his speech are exposed.

Anyone happen to know when we became a democracy? Or an Advanced democracy? Anyone?

Last time I checked we were still a Republic.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas, 1944
