It's not the fall that kills you - it's the sudden stop.
I believe most folks feel like they are free-falling right now. They do not see the bottom of this downturn and it creates a great deal of anxiety.
The President is trying to soft land the economy out of this freefall. At the same time, he is trying to do it with calm and deliberate speed. Unfortunately, no one knows how hard this crash will be?
It is interesting that the Republicans in Congress do not feel that the country is in dire shape. Otherwise, they would not be participating with such zeal with their political games. I seriously doubt that their supporters back in the states feel as confident about the economy as they.
Conservatives, such as Rush Limbaugh, would like folks to believe this fall in the stock market and the economy in general, is primarily the fault of Barack Obama. Even the huge deficit this year, which is really George Bush's deficit, belongs to Barack Obama, they say. He makes George W Bush look like a piker, in regards to budget deficits, Limbaugh preaches to his choir.

It's B. Hussein who has business leaders and investors worried. You can complain all day and try to claim it's not him, but it is. The people with money and who make the country run by anonymously going about their business everyday not looking for gov't to tell them how to live their lives know it's B. Hussein's fault.
It takes a certain type of stupid to try and absolve the actions of B. Hussein in causing the recent anxiousness of the American investors and businesspersons. The primitives are, as always, up to the task of being just that stupid.

I can't speak for the Republican Congressmen, of course, but I know that if I were in their places, it wouldn't be about denying the severity of the current situation or playing political games. It's about standing on principle.
Admittedly, Republicans haven't shown much backbone in that area in a long time. But I'd like to think that that's whats going on.
