The penalty for treason...
Can be death. The reasoning being that during a time of war if someone commits treason it would cause many more American soldiers to die. Therefore the traitor's punishment is to suffer the same fate.
In times of peace a traitorous act is more a political action and doesn't cause multiple deaths so the punishment can be less.
But if our president thinks that political traitorous acts in times of peace should be punished with execution, who am I to disagree?

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
If anyone has levied war against the states of the US, it's the Dems who have worked for over 2 1/2 years to overturn the states' election of Donald Trump to be President. But that's my metaphor, not literal war.
