PCIntern and Hannah Bell bicker over School spying on kids..
« on: February 19, 2010, 02:49:38 PM »
PCIntern claims his kid goes to the school.  Hannah Bell defends the school in a way the school doesn't defend itself.  She seems to be claiming they just took screen shots of what was on the computer, not pics of the kids with the web cam.

the spy-cam story involves my kid's former school AND she knows many of the principals involved AND we are not at all shocked by this. Surprised, maybe; shocked, no.

Since she was in school there last year, I never posted my concerns about this stuff b/c she was entitled to her privacy vis-a-vis her father's ramblings on liberal websites.

When she and every other student was issued a computer, there was a story floating around that the district could find out if anyone had stolen it or was using it for nefarious purposes. The IT folks said that they could take a screenshot from the internal cam and ID the thief or other miscreant. When I first heard about this, I was concerned...when she told me that she had the green light, signifying the webcam's activation, go on at weird hours including when she was home, often lasting for 2 WEEKS at a time, I told her to be careful.

She had gone to the IT folks and told them that something wasn't working properly and they told her that there was nothing that they could do about it. (BTW, the entire IT Dept. was male).

She knows the plaintiff, I know a law partner of the attorney VERY well, in fact, I've quoted him here many times as my lawyer buddy over the years.

This School was considered the number one public school in the entire Delaware Valley as per a Philadelphia Magazine poll, FWIW...there's going to be big trouble....BIG!

what's the basis for your belief, relative to your own purchase of one?

69. Excuse me...

1. The cams are in the computers - this is a fact
2. the district told kids that if the computer were stolen, and reported as such, the webcam would be activated and a pic would be taken.
3. the district also told the kids that going to inappropriate websites or loading inappropriate, unapproved software was grounds for punishment - so how would they know unless they had access to the drive?
4. the webcam light came on A LOT. Every frigging kid knew this...they TALKED about it A LOT!
5. the light normally only went on when a kid would 'chat' with a friend or whomever, and would go off normally when the conversation ended. EXCEPT when it would spontaneously go on...which was often enough for the kid to take notice.
6. the IT folks said that it was no big deal when confronted (my OWN KID WENT...and told me about their evasiveness contemporaneously)
7. It is obvious that someone was 'having fun' at the kids' expense. What...no one of these idjits would look if some girl were undressing? What world do you live in? I'd like to know so I can move there

Oh that's right, Hannah Bell is that militant, fist-in-the-air public school "teacher."  She had a thread the other day advocating teaching union activism to kids starting in kindergarten and on up.  How to rabble-rouse, etc.  Even the DUmpmonkiez knew something was wrong there, and she got little support.

Do we know what school she works at? I'm sure the school would love to see that thread.

116. Why such a big deal? The laptop was school property, to be used to schoolwork.

If the laptop was turned off or the case closed when it was not being used for schoolwork, the camera would see nothing but a student doing schoolwork on a school-property computer. People need to be prepared for this when they get out into the real world - your work PC, supplied by your employer, is not for facebook and porn. Use it for other-than-work and you might get in trouble.

Wow, many are defending the school but just denying.  don't believe it,  didn't happen, no way

Then it is pointed out that the school basically admitted it.  Then it's "what's the big deal".

Just so we have this straight..

recording phone conversations of suspected terrorists

 :ohnoes:

taking pics of teenagers in their bedrooms.  "what's the big deal".

To be fair there are many over there that get what the problem is, but still.

Uh Hannah, how exactly would a computer be found by taking screen shots?

Does she even know what a webcam is?

Well, one thing one can say for the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive is that she's a survivor.

She may be old and bitter, and a racist to boot, but she sometimes goes against the grain of primitivethought (such as it is), providing decent and civilized people a great deal of diversion and amusement.

Didn't we have a discussion on how a simple cell phone can be turned on without the owners knowledge.?    Was it not interesting how a cell phone could even if turned off transmit with out anyone being the wiser.?

This does not sound unreasonable that a PC can be programed to do the same.

Why would a school district want to do this.?    They don't.

It is individuals within the district that get their Jollies out of what they may may chance to SEE, involving young kids.

Creepy, but not surprising, there is no limit on the length perverts will go to to find future victims.

Also there is no limit company's will go to to get information on what we buy or wish to buy.

I saw a thread like that, too, but it was started by the Union Yes primitive.  Several have been on a "Indoctrinate the kiddies to view the world as us vs. them" kick lately.

From the stellar job big government has done to our educational system, I can't wait to see how great the government will make hell-care.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Government wants to control every aspect of our lives and the public school is one of the intrusive ways to do that, through the kids.

Private business doing market research doesn't come close to being nearly as evil, corporations just want to give the people what they want.

Sorry Allos, I have no idea what you are talking about here.

This is so over the top in invasion of privacy, just another to somehow benifit others at our expense.

Tell you how odd it gets, one of my Doctors was filling out papers for me to go to a specialist and when he came to my #ss no., he said he was leaving that blank.   Who knows who will see these records he said.

Paranoid society, we had our taxes done by H&R Block this year.  Very complicated as I had to withdraw my 40ik and getting a short term disability.   So who is the guy that got all this information from us that is employed by H&R Block.   So the company backs him, not us, we have no idea who or where he came from.

DMV in Maine insists on a birth certificate to renew a licence, who are these state workers that get all that information down to the name of your mothers maiden's name, can this be sold to get an identity for someone clear across country.?

This is a huge symptom of Big Brother, Watch while you sleep, watch what you buy, eyes and ears on you at all times by strangers.  Be you a little kid in school to a house wife having everything you buy for the home used by someone for their own benefit.

BTW, one of the largest and well known Hotels in my small area was found to have walkways between rooms for service personal.   Wasn't so long ago that it was found that holes the size of a sewing pin had been drilled into the bedroom walls, not only was every thing the guests said but did could be either watched but video taped.    It was outed by a cop who smelled pot coming through the tiny pin prick.   On examination the areas were full of beer cans, chairs and seemed to be come a viewing gallery.

Is it any wonder that Nanny cams are all over the place and not just to keep an eye on the kids.?

You mention Uranus, Since I do not know you I have no idea nor do I wish to explore that subject.
I am sure it is a very nice place, as far as turds are concerned , have you priced the coplites from 5,000 years ago.?
