Could this really be classified as a cult? I read the entry, but it seemed to me that it was more of a doctrine that some Christians adhere to. I didn't see where it said anything about "Quiverfull" being the religion. It looks to me like a small part of of some people's Christian beliefs, if that makes sense.

As far as what I think about the movement itself, I think it has some good points, and some bad. I have read a lot about birth control pills possibly being "abortifacients" meaning they encourage early abortions by making the uterus a hostile environment that the newly formed embryo/blastocyst cannot implant into. Since I believe the moment of conception, and not the moment of implantation, is the beginning of human life, I stopped taking the pills. But we do use other non-hormonal contraception.

I can see the other side, the whole "just trust God to give you as many as you can handle." But then on the other hand, I know that God gives us a brain, and He expects us to use it. In every area of life, we Christians make decisions based on using our noodle. I don't see how planning your family is any different.

This is still largely a free country, despite the efforts of our fascist left wing, and people can have as many kids as they want.  To me, the limit is being able to support them.  Those that want many children should not expect the American taxpayer to cover all their bills.

On the other hand, though...I'd far rather help with a kid's food and medical expenses than with the cost of an abortion!!!! Every child is a blessing.

Definitely not what I would consider a cult.  More of an aspect of their beliefs.  Can it be taken to extremes, sure, but from what I've seen, most Christians who have large families out of what they feel is obedience to God manage to support and care for their families.  Christian theology has long taught that Christians should trust in the Lord in regards to their family size, look at Catholic and Orthodox Christian teachings for example.

Children are Nature's birth control.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

I wouldn't tend to call them a cult per se, there is not a central leader or unity to them, it is just an ancillary idea incorporated in the beliefs of far-flung individuals.  If enough of them were in one place with a leader, it could end up looking more like a cult, though.

As far as BCPs being possible abortifacients, our experience with them would give no support to that, every time my wife stopped taking them she took a passenger on board within a month.

From what I understand, the claim is that while a woman is taking them, they can have an abortifacient effect, so not only do they stop ovulation, but if by chance a woman ovulates, the egg is fertilized, etc., then they cause the body to reject the fertilized egg.

Ah, I thought it meant a residual effect.  I suppose it's possible, it does not seem like a particularly testable hypothesis.

That's the problem. It's almost impossible to test the hypothesis, so we can't really know for sure, one way or the other. One argument I've heard from doctors is that the "hostile environment" argument doesn't hold up because implantation has been known to happen quite frequently in such places. Many women conceive while on the pill, or when they have an otherwise "hostile environment."

Some doctors say that the birth control pill manufacturer's claim that the thickening of the uterus wall helps prevent implantation is actually just a marketing ploy, without any real scientific evidence to back it up.

The couple on TV, Michelle and Jim Bob, with 19 kids, subscribe to this religion..it's a branch off the Baptist tree.

True, but unrealistic, given the way public schools, roads, and other services are set up.  Of course, most "quiverfull" kids will be raised to respect authority, earn a living, and raise their own kids responsibly...so it's an overall plus to American taxpayers as a whole.
