BLAME RICK SCOTT!

Amtrak to Fla.: We'd like to help, but we can't
By Keith Laing - 03/18/11 11:44 AM ET

Amtrak says there is not enough time for it to partner with Florida cities to apply for high-speed rail money rejected by Florida GOP Gov. Rick Scott, according to the office of Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) Friday.

That effectively means a proposed railway connecting Tampa and Orlando has really reached the end of the line.

Amtrak President Joseph Boardman wrote a letter to Nelson and Democratic Reps. Corrine Brown and Kathy Castor of Florida to tell them an Amtrak-Florida city partnership would have to wait for another time.

Boardman said he would have liked to save the project, but the window to get together an application before April 4 was too short.

“Like you, we share your desire for the development of high-speed rail in Florida and were dismayed when the state decided to relinquish their federal funding for this project,” Boardman wrote to the Florida lawmakers.

Tell you what get some private investors to foot the bill, and problem solved.
Governor Scott was right in not taking the money and adding even more expenses to our state.
The state of FL can not afford the damn thing. Even if the feds gave us the money to start it up, it would end up costing us more over the long run. Someone has to pay to maintain and operate the damn thing.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Oh, absolutely right--but remember, the primitives aren't cerebrally sophisticated enough to think about that.

Right now, the South Dakota and Colorado special interests want a new highway built between Rapid City in South Dakota, and Denver in Colorado.  The proposed highway would go all the way through the western panhandle of Nebraska, and would have most of its mileage within Nebraska.

Despite that the federal government is willing to pay 85% of the costs of construction, Nebraska is fighting this tooth-and-nail.

It's all very good to build a highway.....but what then?

Nebraska would end up with the lion's share of the expenses for maintenance, enforcement, and ultimately repairs and improvements.  South Dakota and Colorado would end up with all the commerce (money) rushing between Rapid City and Denver, and very little of the expense.

Nebraskans think quite reasonably that our gasoline taxes are already excessively high.  Enough is enough.

High speed rail is the equivalent to the solar power pipe dream.
It only works in fantasies when you can pretend that realities don`t exist.

A perfect match for leftist thinking.

Commerce between Rapid City and.....anyplace? This sounds like a landlocked bridge to nowhere, a relic of Senator Daschle's days in power. He'll likely be deeply saddened if it doesn't get built.
