I have 6 brothers and sisters, which was the norm in my neighborhood, and for the time/generation in general.

Couples just don't have that many children anymore.

Absolutely.

Now I assert, and I'm sure all sides of our dialogue would agree, that keeping education local or state-based as opposed to that federal monstrosity we have now would be the lesser evil and greater good.

They never seem to realize that their precious Social Security Ponzi scheme (and don't you DARE try to privatize it!!) needs lots and lots of babies to make it work. 
Apart from that, we need lots and lots of babies to grow up and pay for the huge porkin stinkfest they want so badly.
