Warning for DU Moles
« on: December 27, 2012, 06:21:45 PM »
Just letting you know that there may be a concerted effort by DU to play Sherlock Holmes with regard to finding moles. One of the easiest ways of finding out moles is using the "redirected from" info on their servers to ferret out patterns. For instance, when you click a link in a CC forum like the DUmpster to go to DU, their server will show the link from CC on the redirect. With simple analysis, they can parse out redirect information and reference it with IP information. Finally, they can compare IP information with any existing DU accounts and basically flag possible mole activity in that way.

There is a simple solution, though it involves an extra couple of steps. First, copy the link instead of clicking it. Next, open a new tab or browser window; simply pasting it into the address bar may not be enough to clear the redirect. Finally, open the page in the new tab/browser.  Doing this should be sufficient to cover tracks, though there are other ways for them to investigate in which I'm not going to mention in public (though I can pm the information to sufficiently cleared CC personnel).
