At 2 p.m., a male employee in Gov. Rick Snyder’s official mail room was slightly injured when he opened an envelope containing an unknown granular substance, Snyder’s spokeswoman Geralyn Lasher said today.

She said the employee immediately notified the office which shut down the mail room and evacuated the mail center employees and isolated the injured worker. He reported feeling stinging in his hands and washed them which alleviated the stinging sensation, Lasher said.

The Lansing Fire Department was summoned including hazardous materials experts. They took the letter for testing.
