Testy Barney Frank incensed, even after big win

NEWTON — A cranky U.S. Rep. Barney Frank blasted the Herald last night as “irrelevant,” even as surging Republicans grabbed control of the U.S. House and swept him from his lofty perch as chairman of the powerful financial services committee.

“With the re-election of the Massachusetts delegation and Gov. Deval Patrick, we can acknowledge tonight that Massachusetts has reaffirmed the complete political irrelevance of the Boston Herald," Frank told more than 100 supporters at the Crowne Plaza in Newton. “There is no limit to the bias and vitriol they unleashed.”

Frank won the hardest fight of his political career, fending off a fierce challenge from newcomer Sean Bielat. “This was a very important victory to win,” Frank said. “I’m very pleased to go back.”

And there's this nice little tidbit:

Quote
Bielat supporter Bill Heck, 62, of Newton, said Frank’s “sell-by” date has expired. “I wish Barney Frank was a retired person effective January,” Heck said. “My wish did not come true.”

Wellesley grandmother Zeynep Mesta got emotional and said she hoped Bielat will run again. “I’ll work even harder next time,” Mesta said.

Barney Frank’s ‘irrelevance’

Barney Frank is the chairman of a very important House committee. At least for a few more weeks. Then he will be the “ranking member” — the ex-chairman.

Can someone say “irrelevant?” Think, a 70-year-old has-been?

But Barney can’t accept this morning’s new reality. Just as he can’t admit his complicity in the destruction of the U.S. economy, he can’t admit his approaching irrelevance.

Here he is last night, in the middle of his ungracious spittle-flecked victory speech.

Barney's got to face the music; he's irrelevant, and doomed to become even more so.

Along with Bela Pelosi, Scary Harry, and some other long-entrenched Dems who won bruising victories yesterday.

They're damaged goods.

I can't see where the remaining Dems will be content having them being "leaders" any more.

I suspect Chuck Schmucker, or whatever his name is, of New York, is already working behind the scenes to usurp Scary Harry as Dem leader in the Senate, for example.

It happens all the time.

Barney's slipping into irrelevancy.

Pelosi, Reid, and Frank may have won, but they will find themselves they have been de-clawed.  ;D

I enjoyed the comments written by readers on the first story. Many are apologizing to the rest of the country for the vote.

I didn't know much about Bawney's opponent until yesterday, especially since I'm nowhere near Massachussets.  But I'm quite impressed with the credentials of Sean Bielat:

Quote
Sean Bielat is the first strong challenger to Barney Frank since the 1980s. His experience and accomplishments have shaped his views:

—As a businessman, Sean believes in focusing on economic growth and fiscal responsibility

—As a Marine, he believes in peace through strength

—As an American, he believes in a return to Constitutional values and citizen-legislators

Sean’s career highlights include—

•Major, U.S Marine Corps Reserve
•Independent Consultant. Helped client companies build market strategies
•Program Manager, iRobot Corporation. Led $100 million, 100 person business line providing life-saving defense robots used to destroy roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan
•Chairman, NATO Industrial Armaments Group. Led an international team studying the potential for use of advanced reconnaissance technology in urban warfare
•Management Consultant, Mckinsey & Company
•Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps (active duty)
Sean and his wife are residents of Brookline, MA and recently had their first child, Theo. They are members of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Brookline. Sean currently works as an independent consultant and serves as an officer in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Sean worked his way through college and graduate school, aided by scholarships and the GI Bill. He now holds a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University, and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the International Institute for Security Studies, and the Council on Emerging National Security Affairs.

I hope he mounts another run in 2012.

I hope he does too, Ralph.  He was on my modest money-bombs list.

"Chuck Schmucker"....I like that.  Has a nice ring to it, like a sleazy slimey lounge lizard.  I have no doubt he's working behind the scenes to usurp dingy Harry.  He's scheming and plotting as we speak.

I think I'll go check out the article that Frank posted.

As usual, I have to rely on the rest of the country to do the right thing. Obviously a bunch of dimwitted progressive socialists in District 4. Congrats bafoons, just watch the rest of the Red Tsunami take over America!

Wait for November!!  What a joke!!

Like me, he'd been waiting for 2 years to make his voice heard and make it change a relentless march to serfdom.  He was disappointed.  Like getting coal for Christmas.

Glenn Reynolds' reply (http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/109147/) was right on the mark (as usual).
Quote
BARNEY FRANK SURVIVED SEAN BIELAT’S CHALLENGE, but as this “train-wreck” victory speech demonstrates, it really got under his skin and he’s lashing out in what looks more like an angry concession speech. I think Barney Frank is actually hurt that he had to take it, not just dish it out this time around. But the Tea Party movement has not yet begun to dish . . . .

But Frank’s childish behavior provides a good lesson in how to deal with the political class. Mock them, and don’t treat them with the respect they — wrongly — feel is their due. They’re not used to being challenged. Keep it up, and odds are they’ll either quit, or embarrass themselves fatally.

I relish Issa puting a little mustard on investigations of bawney "buns&" frank.  The Virgin Vacation with Chili P's Hedge Fund BF is a great place to start. But I would also look at his involvement with Freddie's (former head's) fanny. In my mind he needs to be held accountable for something.

Talk about a Devil with the blue dress on.  Great pic.

Touché

As the very nuanced senior senator from Mass might say, Touché.

Massivetwoshits--land of the beaten spouses once again.  Ask them why they vote for 'Rats and just like a beaten wife when asked why she doesn't leave her husband, will cry through a bloody broken-toothed mouth, "But he loves me!"

Point well taken.  I really do hope they investigate some of the back door shenanigans Bawney has been involved in.  He is just a little too bold, kind of like the asshole kid with the four letter big brother to run hide behind.  I don't dislike him because he is queer, I dislike him because instinctively I believe he is a crook.  I don't dislike ObieWun because he is a mutt, I dislike him because he is a socialist ideologue.
