Attended My First College Football Game Last Night...

Missouri vs. Oklahoma.

The local boys won, 36 to 27 - or something like that. They announced something like 71,000 in the stands. They reserved a small wedge in a corner for Okie fans. It seemed, well, rather accommodating since everywhere else it was jammed.

I don't think I've seen that many people jammed in one place since they were giving away free beef in Berlin in 1983 (beef from England, of course).  :lmao:

Mrs E is a U of Missouri Music Department staffer, so she got me a yellow shirt and a badge that announced I was the same. We got in on the heels of the band - holy shit, something like 300 of them.

Anyway, the whole experience - tailgating, partying, gymnastics in the parking lot (seriously), and especially the aftermath in exiting the stadium was something of interest. Apparently lots and lots and lots of people enjoy this kind of stuff.

The noise was deafening - seriously. As I have hearing loss anyway, that is not something I'm willing to do again. Not without hearing protection, anyway.

I now have a better understanding about collegiate football and those that follow the sport. I just ain't one of them.

When I was in college (in the dark ages . . .), it was FREE entertainment on a Saturday afternoon!  And pretty much an all-day happy hour which led into Saturday night . . . yeah, don't remember too much after that  :-)  :cheersmate:

Now that my son is in high school, it's a blast going to those games too!  I could live with football 24/7/365.

I have been lucky enough to have gone to many college football games.  The craziest was Ohio State vs. Michigan.  We got there early, like 7am for a noon game.  Had to park a few miles away, but the OSU campus was off the charts.  Didn't matter where you were, the place had gone nuts.  110,000 fans and 100,000 of them OSU fans in the stadium.  Crazy stuff!!

Since I live in Ohio, but am an Iowa fan (I am a wrestler) all my friends invite me to OSU vs. Iowa games.  I have been to maybe 7-8 of those and I still have fun every year.  I also make sure to make the Iowa vs. Minnesota game each year it is in Iowa.  Kinnick Stadium only seats like 75,000, but it is just as loud and exciting.

Win or lose, I think college football live is much better than NFL live.  Of course, I live near Cincinnati, so the only NFL team I get to see is the Bengals and I'm not sure if that even counts. lol

I went to college out in that area, unbiased, at Miami in Oxford -- have you been to any games at Yager Stadium?

I actually went to Miami, too.  I ended up graduating from a different college because of money, but I have been to several games at Yager.  I was there in 2002 when Iowa came and was the only team to beat them and Big Ben.  When I was attending college there, they sucked.  They were almost giving tickets away, so we would just go for something to do.  The only big thing that really happened back then was when Marshall came with Randy Moss.  The stadium went from a few thousand to standing room only.

Oh COOL!!  I really loved that place although I probably wouldn't recognize a good deal of it now.  I was there when they were building Yager and opened it for the '84 fall football season (by crikey!) with that stirring dedication speech by Howard "so happy to be here in Miami of Florida" Cosell . . . yo Howard, you see any palm trees here, buddy?  :-)

We've been able to watch several Miami vs. Marshall games over the last decade (ESPN) which have been great entertainment.  It's a shame Marshall left the MAC.

You are right about not recognizing it.  I go through Oxford several times a month to get to Brookeville Lake.  It doesn't matter when you go through, something has changed.  They have a new, "state of the art", finesss facility.  The Goggin Ice Rink has moved across town.  The equestrian land is huge now and actually gives scholorships to those athletes, now.  All the bars have changed names, but all of the off campus housing for students is pretty much the same.  Those old houses have taken a beating, but they are still there.  It's still a pretty cool town.

Glad you had a good time; however, there is no event more glorious than Texas A&M vs. Texas at Kyle Field.
