This song by the Goo Goo Dolls (who were NOT The Replacement wannabes...although The Replacements are awesome in their own right) has been haunting me lately. This came out the year my Marine was born. I can remember just staring at my tiny little boy while Goo Goo Dolls (and usually the Ramones, but somehow "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue isn't resonating) played in the background. He's coming home in a couple of days...I get to see him for two whole weeks and then he's off to Afghanistan. He gave up a full soccer scholarship to be a Marine...damn, he was good (once he actually scored a goal with his nuts) but he wanted to be a Marine more than anything. Erma Bombeck once said that to be a mother was to forever have your heart walking around outside your body. My heart will be hanging around the Helmand Province for the next 7 months. My oldest boy decided to join the Coast Guard. At least the most possible danger he might encounter seemed so remote at the time, since he was "only" in Alaska. That was before "The Perfect Storm" (which I was forbidden to watch while J.R. was serving).

Okay, I'm too freaking maudlin...even for me, you'd think I'd be used to deployments by now. SO, here's a song from our Halloween tradition here. When I was in college The Rocky Horror Picture Show was all the rage. Every Friday night I'd dress up as WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR...Magenta and off we'd go to the theater (even had the guts...or the stupidity...to go up on stage a couple of times). So, every Oct. 31st we watch this. I no longer dress up in my maid costume...my sons would be mortified, but I've guilt tripped them into making this the Halloween family tradition.

Goo Goo Dolls, deployments...Coast Guard...Alaska...Time Warp and Magenta...think I've erased all doubts that I'm bipolar by now.
