"In the mood" by the Glenn Miller orchestra is actually my favorite song of all time, bar none. Too bad he disappeared over the channel in '44.
I can remember the family reunion backyard picnic at my grandparent's house on the fourth of July in 1976 when everybody came from several states, all of us. My grandparents had eight kids and they each had at least four kids so there were a lot of us. The old Victrolla with all of the glass 78's in the cabinet underneath was getting a workout that day. "In the mood" especially, it got played over and over with the horn of the Victrolla pointed out the window inside the living room and all my aunts and uncles (WWII generation) were jitterbugging on the patio outside.
I'll never forget that as long as I live, awesome people every one of them. The few that are left are in their upper eighties now, mom being the baby of the family ('41) who was born almost twenty years after the rest of her siblings.

Good story. Better if all vote conservative.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Just for you, Euph!  :-)

An early pic of Glenn, before his WWII days, abbreviated as they were. Slip Horn Jive, eh? Of course, the trombone was called "the slip horn" because of the glissandos that the instrument is capable of.

For sheer melodic jazz trombone (all kinds of styles), my favorite has got to be Carl Fontana:

Or maybe Urbie Green:

Or maybe Bill Watrous - and on this one, you can actually follow the sheet music (transcribed solo) -- HOLY SHIT!!!!!  :banghead::  :-)

I'm gonna assume that this was transcribed after the piece was played as an improvisation by Bill........no friggen way I could ever actually read and play that rapidly from a piece of sheet music........

Correct -- and the guy who transcribed that solo has ears as big as my house. Amazing.

Bill makes it sound so easy -- but in concert I actually heard him say that a piece he was going to do next was "hard". Jeez. When he can play this kind of stuff IMPROVISED, it makes what the rest of us are doing look like we're playing tiddlywinks.

One of Bill's mentors, btw, was Carl Fontana.

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Ya know, every time that has ever come up I have just immediately stopped it. For some reason though I just played it in its entirety. Why the F did I do that???!!!  :mental:
I have to admit though, that was actually pretty... lame.

From the concert my wife and I went to last October. You'll have to excuse the audio, the bass completely overwhelmed the poor camera.

Alright folk-stars, for my 40th birthday Mrs RC got me tickets to Gordon Lightfoot. The first an only time I saw him was at the Cape Cod Melody Tent circa 1989.  Really looking forward to the show!! I'm trying to get my dad to fly up from Florida to see it with me since Mrs RC will be busy with the new baby.
