“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

This is "Virtual Zeppelin". Not really a band per se because the members have never met face to face.
They are scattered around the globe in various places, Japan, U.S., Australia, U.K.
All of their creations and "performances" are done solo by each in their own locations and then edited together online to produce the songs.

Cool idea.  I'll have to check out their YouTube channel.

Only on the innernets.  People used to play chess by mail, but this is a little more interesting.

Sounds Like Teen Spirit: Stolen Melodies, Ripped-off Riffs and the Secret History of Rock 'n' Roll is the first book ever to examine the phenomenon of songs that appear to have "borrowed" their melodies from earlier songs.

While many are familiar with the similarities between George Harrison's My Sweet Lord and the Chiffon's oldie He's So Fine, did you also know that:

·   The first rock 'n' roll hit, Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock took part of its melody from Hank William's Move it on Over?
·   The guitar riff that powered Nirvana's classic Smells Like Teen Spirit had its origins in Boston's More Than a Feeling?
·   Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier shares its melody with The Theme from the Banana Splits, a kids show from the 1960s?

Thanks Thor, I tried a couple times, then deleted the post when I couldn't get it to show up.

I'll try another song  :p

That book looks like a good read, Chris. I'll have to check it out.
I remember reading somewhere (guitar magazine?) that "Virtual Zeppelin" had begun something of a craze, spawning a run of knock offs covering other bands but I haven't gone looking for them so I'm not too familiar with all that. "jun626" is the guitar player in VZ. He is a Japanese guy still in his 20's I think. I've been playing guitar for 31 years and IMHO this kid is far and away the best cover player to be seen anywhere on the innerwebz (I am guilty of drooling with envy over his seemingly endless collection of vintage guitars). His playing is flawless.

Is goes without saying there is an awful lot of pure shyte on YouTube passed off as covers. jun626 and those he associates with are unquestionably the best to be seen. These kids (most in their early 20's) are head and shoulders above all the rest.

He is a massive Deep Purple, Beatles and Pink Floyd fan. I highly suspect that other videos by "tokairock" and "mg4150" are in fact the very same person, jun626.

I've come across a few talented people on YouTube... Machine Gun Smith is a little flashy but Sy Thomas has chops.
