Biden's Networth - I'm Perplexed
« on: August 25, 2008, 06:11:24 PM »
Obama aides said they were attracted to the Delaware senator's humble beginnings -- and his relatively modest lifestyle. He has a net worth between $59,000 and $366,000, not much for the millionaire's club known as the Senate.

I'm a bit perplexed, he's been a Senator since 73', and a lawyer before that... now the article mentions he lives a very modest life style....

So... I'm just really perplexed, how on earth could an individual living a modest life style, after that long of a relatively comfortable salary, have only that amount in house equity, savings, retirement accounts, etc?

Either he's a philanthropist saint, or... well... not some one I'd wish to watch over my investments, let alone my country.  Did he run into some painful divorce or some other tragic mishap of life?  I mean seriously, something just doesn't add up.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Hidden accounts in the Cayman Islands?

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas, 1944

Given that level of income for that long a time (and real estate is supposed to be counted in your filing) the fact his net worth is that low is suggestive of either very bad investment choices (Bear Stearns and Enron as his largest investments to date) or a little bit of perjury
.

Like the OP, I think it raises more questions than answers.

And this is the guy who had to withdraw from his last Presidential bid because of a little issue of plagiarism.   So he doesn't have a huge reputation for honesty anyway.
