U.S. Orders Ships to Libya as Battle Lines Harden

The U.S. ordered two warships and 400 Marines to the waters off Libya on Tuesday, but a top Obama administration official stopped short of saying the forces would intervene in the country's growing civil war.

At a Pentagon briefing, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced he had ordered to the Mediterranean the USS Ponce and the USS Kearsarge, an amphibious-assault ship that typically carries V-22 Ospreys and MH-53E troop-transport helicopters. The Marines, currently in the U.S., will be airlifted to meet the ships.
I post here, move if necessary. WHY IS OBAMA DOING THIS? What is his gain?

My take is he is "showing the flag" for no other reason than a cheap photo op.

He has no intention of getting himself into anything that would require command decisions, after all this isn't "Bush's war" and even the Libtards know that. If he actually plants a flag it's all his.

Obozo has clue. The whole administration has no clue.
Any word from Obozo on the Iranian protests at all?

Shades of Mogadishu. Communists love nothing better than to send the American spear in and then cut the logistic lines.

Show of force.  Actual capability to do anything is so limited that it's not a very convincing one.  With the press reporting the full capabilities and movements of everything, the days when just a couple of warships in sight could mean the entire fleet was lying to just beyond the horizon are over and done.

What about his policy of no interference with other countries' government?  :banghead:

That only applies to allies or to strict Muslim countries like Iran.
