With gas prices nationwide averaging close to $4 per gallon, President Obama announced today that the U.S. attorney general is creating a task force to root out any cases of fraud or manipulation in the oil and gas markets that might affect gas prices.

"We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American consumers for their own short-term gain," Mr. Obama said at a town hall meeting at the renewal energy company ElectraTherm in Reno, Nevada.

What's that old nugget, when the government gets involved in something, expect the price to go up?

I came across an article earlier this week that noted Obama significantly complaining about oil speculators driving up the price, and not a lack of supply.  Not that I expect the cure to be any worse than the disease, especially with this jackass running the show.  If it works out to anybody's benefit after all is said and done it will be a miracle an accident.

This is the new reality, gas prices won't come down like they did in 2008. The dollar is becoming worthless on the world market - and oil is traded globally using dollars. Unless and until our "government" can stop spending and pay off some debt, gas prices will continue to rise.

There is nothing to even out, if the Dollar continues to fall commodities that are traded in dollars will continue to cost more. This is not currently a supply/demand problem, it is a currency problem and IMHO gas isn't going to stop going up, it may slow a bit (hopefully as I drive 25,000 miles a year). Rising gas prices will continue to pull down on the economy with an ever worsening spiral downward.

Americans will stop traveling, businesses will be hit and more jobs will be lost. Food prices are going to continue to rise because farms can't afford diesel anymore. A friend of a friend in construction is kicking in $8,000 a month more for fuel - instead of hiring summer workers he's eating the increased fuel costs. I think it's fixing to get real bad.
