Quote
While many states are confronting severe budget shortfalls and dragging economies, North Dakota has a different sort of problem. It's stuck deciding how best to deal with a budget surplus. Yes, a surplus. North Dakota's balance sheet is so strong it recently reduced individual income taxes and property taxes by a combined $400 million, and is debating further cuts.

...and who knows that better than....white farmers. They know to save for those years when the harvest isn't that great or it's a complete failure. And businesses there are probably run by ex-farmers or those closely related to farming...it sort of rubs off on others.

I'd live in North Dakota... There are many times I'd like to get away from a big metro area like Dallas and move somewhere smaller and less "busy."

Agree.

My ancestors are from the North-South Dakota region.  Is region the right word I should use?  My German ancestors immigrated from Russia/Prussia in the late 1800's.  They were pretty much all farmers.  I still have farmer relatives in South Dakota, but I am unsure about North Dakota.  My grandma grew up on a farm in North Dakota, then the family moved to South Dakota, then Minnesota, and then to Wisconsin.

The only way you could get me to move to North Dakota is if I'm allowed to take a snowmobile to work.  On public roads.

I live in what is barely a city , only a little over 70+ thousand.  Our biggest traffic jams are caused by trains, and rush hour means sitting through one cycle of green, yellow and red lights.

You'd like my part of Nova Scotia then. People in the rural area here take quads to work in the summer and winter and some take their snowmobiles to work in the winter, on the public roads. The police don't even bother with them.

It's typical the rednecks but still.
