The commissioner of the Port of Seattle on Wednesday offered a frightening snapshot of how President Donald Trump’s widespread tariffs could result in a massive economic blow in the weeks ahead. Ryan Calkins — who predicted a 40% drop in container imports at the ports of Seattle and nearby Tacoma over the next few weeks — told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that, as of about 6 p.m., there were “no container ships” berthed in the Port of Seattle.

“And that happens every once in a while in normal times, but it’s pretty rare,” he said. “And so to see it tonight is, I think, a stark reminder that the impacts of the tariffs have real implications.”

Calkins added that there weren’t longshore workers on the dock unloading merchandise, nor were trains taking goods to inland ports or other cities such as Chicago, Illinois, and Des Moines, Iowa. “That’s hundreds of jobs right here in our region and across the country,” Calkins continued. He went on to describe ports as the “canary in the coal mine” for the country. “The canary’s struggling right now,” he said.

Economists have claimed that if America faces a recession, the possibility of which Trump has downplayed, it will begin on U.S. docks as the president rallies behind 145% tariffs on imported goods from China.

Anyway, remember when DUmmies were howling that longshoremen needed to strike because they all need to make $200k/year? I sure do.

Also, remember when DUmmies used to demand that Americans curtail their consumption for the good of the environment, and stuff from China was all shit and added to global warming? Now they want infinite amounts of plastic dog shit and melamine-laced tchotchkes imported without end, no matter the cost.

Seattle is a very minor league port. It's way, way behind LA area ports and even the Port of Tacoma does about 50% more annual volume than Seattle.

     I just don't understand why we suddenly need to fill Walmart's shelves with bullshit that no one really needs, or that some American company can create. This was EXACTLY the DU line in their "Buy American, Buy Union" phase from like 2005-2007 or so (if I recall correctly). They decried the waste of giant ships belching exhaust and filling the Pacific with the human waste of Chinese shipworkers just to bring consumer goods to the US.

     Now, suddenly, the fate of the US is vitally linked to that crap never, ever ending.
