Friend in New England called me yesterday, and said the VA in her area is

a "shit show." She's a VA nurse practitioner and said they're having to turn patients away from packed waiting rooms every day. The staff has been cut in half, and all remaining are working overtime to see at least 50 patients/day. Surgeries have had to be canceled.

New staff scheduled to come on board have been diverted to other VA facilities or opted to take a private practice job.
Any people near retirement, among the most medically experienced, are gone. Even those who will receive just a portion of their pension have gone, too.

TSF said there would be a "little pain." Guess he and the DOGE goons didn't figure on how painful it can be to have your cancer surgery canceled after already surviving a months-long wait.

I've long heard that VA care is hit or miss.  Some people get great care, some hospitals are awesome, and some people get shafted, some hospitals are terrible. 

Never dug in enough to see the cause of such discrepancies.  Listening to the moonbats, a government operation should be consistently top tier across the fruited plains, right?

As a veteran who gets his healthcare through the VA, I can say that the care received varies greatly from hospital to hospital. Some are great, some are middle of the road, some suck but it's no different than private (civilian) hospitals.

I find I get excellent care. As I'm scheduled to go in on May 8 to have 1/3 of my left lung removed, I have full faith in my medical team and the hospital in general.

Now, I go to Gainesville, Fl to the Malcolm Randall VA hospital so it's on the larger (read more visible) scale of hospitals so I expect their performance to be under more scrutiny, IMO..

In general, I'd give my VA experience a 9 out of 10..(Only because I haven't had their food yet...

     The VA is well-known to be a high variance, low mean experience for veterans, generally because of the inefficacy and inefficiency of the federal government and the career assholes who are just there to sponge off of taxpayers. If it sucks today, it sucked when SpongeBrain ShitPants was in power, and I didn't hear shit from the DUmp about it then.

I have been going to the VA hospital in Omaha Nebraska since 2014 for treatment of Type 2 diabetes and other things. Since 2014 I have had ten surgeries. five to help with infections that developed from getting my toenails cut to close by myself that started the whole problem that led to the removal of all five toes on the right foot by the time it was over with. Next up was two surgeries for cateracts  and the last time was to have my prostate removed due to cancer. each time I had no issues with getting treated well and in time for my medial problems. I have gotten my medications either right there at the hospital ot through the mail via the VA web site to get refills and that too has been great.

I get it that not all of the VA hospitals are run as well as they should be but until the vets and their families and the people in the states with the bad hospitals are start to hold them accountable nothing will change.

I worked at the VA hospital in Omaha from 2015-2019. I was the telephone system tech there responsible for Grand Island, Lincoln, Omaha, Des Moines and Iowa City. Nice hospital but the winters suck..

That they do but it will never be as cold on average as it was during the three weeks I spent in Alaska during mid-January to early Feb of 89 in Alaska while I was in the Army. The whole time we stayed in the tents because it was to cold to train and then when it came to flying back to the lower US, the barametric pressure was too high to fly for another three days.
